Hello,
I successfully transferred all my tags and their hierarchic structure when I passed from PSE10 to PSE14 by restoring in the later the backed-up catalog of the former. Afterwards, I installed LR6, DVD. All fine so far.
I then imported my PSE14 catalog in LR6 by using the option “ Import a Photoshop Elements Catalog” under File Menu. From what I see, it did import all the photos and all my albums are properly shown in the “Collections” Pane on the left. However, the tags were not properly imported in LR6:
- In the Keywords list pane at the right, all the hierarchies I had created in PSE have been flatten, except for the hierarchies that were in the original People tags section.
- LR6 tells me in its Library that I have a total of 5 666 images, version sets opened. From that number, 2 100 were imported without any tag (verified in “Metadata, keyword, non” filter. PSE14 tells me in Media that I have a total of 5 108 images, version sets closed. The “Find menu” PSE14 only finds 64 “Untagged items”, which is most probably accurate.
- For instance, the tag “Halloween 2008” gives me 4 results in LR6, while it gives me 23 results in PSE14. I know that all these pictures are in the same “2008 10 31” folder on my hard drive. When I browse by folder in LR6, in the left pane, without any other search criteria active, I see all the 23 pictures. However, when I look in the right pane, it shows well that only 4 of them have the “Halloween 2008” tag. 8 others have a weird “zzABC@11#” tag which I do not have a clue where it comes from.
- A search with the “zzABC@11#” tag, the last one in the list, gives me 1869 results. In different pictures, sometimes it is alone, sometimes with other original tags from PSE14.
- On my hard drive, all my pictures are stored from one sole common parent folder. File Explorer tells me that it contains 6 138 files in 237 folders. The names of the folders are all dates, mainly on the yyyy dd mm format. As a consequence, I need to rely on the tags to find my pictures. This is also why I was so systematic in tagging my pictures as soon as I was importing them in PSE. It works well for me that way.
- I have imported twice from PSE14 to LR6, both times by using the option “ Import a Photoshop Elements Catalog”. Not surprisingly, each time with similar results.
- All I know for sure is that: 1) I cannot rely on the tags as they now appear in LR6. 2) I am not going to retag about 6 000 pictures in LR6.
The bright side is that it gave me an occasion to familiarize myself with the LR6 data base and some of the search options it offers... I will forget for a while about the tagging problem, but if you have any suggestions they would be appreciated.
I shall soon start to play in the LR6 Develop Module for a while, which is the main purpose of the whole exercise, right.
Thank you.
