Hi everyone,
Would you like to participate in the Weekly Photo Challenge? Just post a photo or photos which will be your interpretation of the theme.
The rules are rather simple.
Your photo(s) should be your own, i.e., they should not have been taken by someone else.
Your photo(s) should be taken during the week of the theme.
You are allowed to do some photoshopping.
You are to experiment and, most of all, have fun.

Thanks for the fun theme Sepiana. I have a lot of favorite murals in town but this one came out on top because it went away and now it's back! The trompe l'oiel depicts the Oregon Trail and was originally painted by Richard Haas in the late 1980's. At the time, the building housed the Oregon Historical Society. The historical society has since moved into new digs next door and the building has been sold, to be refurbished and repurposed. There was no doubt that refurbishing would damage the art work, so as a part of the sale agreement the new owners agreed to restore the mural to it's original state. It was sad to watch the painting be damaged over the spring, but the new owners have done a wonderful job of restoration. The side of the building you see only has five windows. The others are illusion.  |

Love that mural, Bill. It really does look more like an actual construction.
I'm thinking that the closest I'll come to a mural around here is probably going to be graffiti on a railroad car. I'll keep my eyes open though.

This is a winner on two counts -- the shot itself and the subject it captured. Beautiful, sharp, detailed shot of a masterpiece by one of the greatest muralists, Richard Haas. I am impressed!
As a side note -- I am a big fan of this artist. I have seen some of his murals in Chicago, Homewood, St. Louis, and New York. I always stand in awe at his superb use of the trompe-l'œil effect.

Computer and internet problems last weekend so didn't get to post this mural which livens up an otherwise rather drab back entrance to a store (which may at one time have been a bait shop but certainly isn't now). Think I've finally got things all working again so hoping this will work:  Tony |
