The Black & White Challenge is a monthly challenge that will present members with a theme that should be presented in monochrome. Often, articles will be included that may offer tips and suggestions relating to either the theme or Black & White Photography in general. You will be asked to share details about the software you chose for your conversion. By removing color, the image will be broken down to the interplay of light and shadow, line, texture and form. As part of the challenge we want you to try to “see” in black and white.
What is the challenge’s time frame?
The challenge will be presented on the first Thursday of each month. Members will also be allowed to revisit and post submissions for previously presented challenges.
What is the purpose of the challenge?
The purpose of this challenge is to encourage members to explore and share the creative possibilities of black & white photography. Simone and Helen don’t claim to be experts by any means, but instead hope to encourage dialogue that will help us all in our pursuit of well-crafted black & white images.
What are the rules?
Images must be your own and presented in monochrome. Participating members will be expected to share techniques and questions. While Simone and Helen will be the presenters of the theme, the success of the challenge will depend on the active participation of the contributors.
