Looking through the system requirements, you will need a graphics card with a fair bit of grunt. They say if your machine falls between Minimum and Recommended spec. levels, you will encounter issues using A.I. Gigapixel
I'd really think about that. Topaz is asking a hundred dollars for it! For HALF that you can get ON1 Photo RAW 2018 which has an excellent resizing module and a LOT more.
Craig, I quite agree. Great advice! With Photo RAW 2018 you also get other modules such as Browse, Develop, Effects, etc. And, if you have money to spare, . . . you can become a ON1 Plus member (worth every penny).
And don't forget the monthly rewards! Great freebies -- Presets, LUTs, etc.!
Yes, that was the first thought that came to my mind.
I'm reading up on both ON1 and Topaz before I do my own comparison and to me it doesn't look like ON1 beat Topaz at AI resizing because they appear to be using different technologies in their methods for resizing.
I see this on Topaz's web site:
A.I.Gigapixel™ is the first and only desktop application to use the power of artificial intelligence to enlarge your images while adding natural details for an amazing result.
For anyone interested in downloading a 30 day trial of AI Gigapixel I found that I had to go to their downloads web page at topazlabs.com/downloads/
Clicking on any of the links on the AI Gigapixel web page added the app to a shopping cart which didn't appear to give me a 30 day trial option.
It'll be interesting now to do some testing and comparing to see, for me at least, if On1's fractal-based interpolation algorithms or Topaz's artificial intelligence technology in AI Gigapixel is much better than the other .
Topaz is doing a webinar on this tomorrow the 21st.
From my own testing of a jpg (20mg - 5294x3840) upscaled 400% (23040x15360). Topaz took 1hour 18minutes - On1 under 5 minutes. ON1 allows you to pick your resolution - could not find how to do that in topaz.
Final Images size Topaz - 168.4mb Final Images size ON1 - 4.02gb as a PSB
Tested on a Dual Core i7 MAC 3Ghz 16Gig of Ram, GPU 3.3
Just a note:
Topaz is a standalone program ONLY - ON1 works as a plugin or standalone.
That 1hr 18min is way, way longer than what I am seeing so far, but I have only tested 2 images so far. I want to test a few more images with different types of content - portait, landscapes and anything in between and at different resolutions and print sizes. So far, AI Gigapixel is very impressive.
As I posted earlier, Topaz state that most of the processing/computing is actually done on the graphics card and that computers with graphics cards on their unsupported list will have issues such as excessive processing times or AI Gigapixel may not even work.
Please note: If your machine hardware falls between the Minimum and Recommended performance levels, you WILL encounter issues using A.I. Gigapixel, including excessive processing times! Reduce the size of your image, or install hardware that meets or exceeds the performance of Recommended hardware, if you encounter problems.
Please note: If you are using a graphics card that is on the Unsupported Graphics Cards list, then your hardware will not be supported. This means A.I. Gigapixel may or may not work on your system, and we will not be able to make any corrections to address problems you encounter. We do not recommend using A.I. Gigapixel if you have any of the hardware on this list:
