Not enough room on Subject line. My images are being hijacked by something called OpenOffice.org Draw. I am running an iMac macOS 10.13.06 This started recently after I upgraded to High Sierra. I looked up OpenOffice and there was information about it regarding Microsoft. It's really irritating because I just spent considerable time working exclusively in PSE 14 editor on an image. Saved it as a psd file, but when I later opened it from where it resides on my desktop I get this OpenOffice.org Draw file.
If anyone else had this happening and fixed I would be very happy to learn how.

Open Office is a free alternative to Micro$oft's Word suite.
It sounds like you are trying to open the file by double-clicking on it. Try opening it from within PSE (File|Open). If you were on a PC I would say your file associations have somehow been scrambled, but I'm not sure what the equivalent is on a Mac (if there even is one).

I have an iMac 10.13.06 as well. I remembered that I had Open Office and tried to replicate your problem.
First I tried to open a psd. from my desktop by double-clicking as I usually do. As expected it opened in PS.
Not having used OO in quite awhile, I opened that program and then tried to open the psd. again. Once again it opened in PS.
Not sure if it would help but you may want to run Malwarebytes to see if that brings anything up.

FrizzyLee Check the following: Right click on the image file Select Get Info and the Get Info window opens (see my example) If the info panes are collapsed, select Open with You can the select which application you want to open your psd files (On my example I chose a jpeg file and I am telling my Mac to open jpeg files using PSE 16) There is also a Change All options— if you click it, it will explain the option to have all your psd files open with the same application.  |

Many, many thanks to Bailey and PeteB! I do believe that this annoying issue may be fixed. . . . . .at least it is for one important photo. I printed out your directions so I will be prepared if it happens again. I do have one question. Am I right in assuming that if I do select Adobe Photoshop Elements in the "Change All" menu that that is exactly what will happen. I am hesitant to do so because I frequently open images in Preview as well as in a few apps.
I wish all issues were as easily solved as this. At least it does seem to be solved. Thank you all so much for your help.

Hi Pat When you select Change All, you are specifying which program (application) will open when you double-click on that type of file…in your case a psd file. If you decide to Change All and PSE becomes your default psd file opener But on a particular psd file you want to open it in Preview — do the following: Instead of double clicking on the file, right click on the file and you will then get an Open With box. You will get a (short) list of the applications that will open a psd file… Preview will be listed. HTH |
