For our third photo edit challenge we are using a dng file. This should allow you to edit the image in whatever RAW editor you prefer. The only corrections that have been made are camera profile and leveled. External editors....NIK, Topaz etc. may be used. New for this challenge will be the use of textures. Because they are part of the effects possible using On1, and available to members using the Topaz plug-in Texture Effects, I thought it might add to the creative process to allow members to make use of their own created or purchased textures. If you choose to use a texture, please credit the source if possible. This will help other members who might be interested in obtaining a particular texture. The purpose is to share your creative vision for the image. Hopefully we can all learn from and inspire each other in this fun challenge. Here are the rules: 1. Everyone will work on this same image. 2. You will have two weeks to complete this challenge and may submit more than one edit. Challenge will end on December 1, 2018. 3. You may not add clip-art, create a composite or use someone else's action.
4. Please be sure to give a summary of what you did to achieve your final look. 5. Comments are restricted to complimenting someone's edit or asking a question about their process. You are not to critique someone's submission. 6. At the end of the challenge the three top edits will be chosen by the person who has submitted the image. 7. Hope you have fun with this challenge. 8. If you have any questions please PM me so that we can keep the posts restricted to edits of the photo and compliments for a particular edit. 9. Please consider contributing an image for a future challenge!
This is the image we will be working on: The dng file can be downloaded here.

Hi hmca, I am happy to go first in case everyone else is sitting back waiting to see what pops up All the processing is in ACR and PSE and fairly simplistic. 1. I did my normal exposure, colour adjustments in ACR and then opened the image in PSE 2. Straightened the image - crooked light poles annoy me no end. 3. Cropped a bit of the scene out to remove distractions. Then I started scratching my head for about 5 minutes trying to work out what to do with it . Art photography is not my strong point. After trying a few filters in PSE and coming up with things that just looked "blah", I ended up applying a combination of the Diffuse Glow and Glass filters. The fish didn't quite look right to me so I masked the filters out on the fish and they now seem to perform a bit of a subject/focus role in the image.
Anyway, this is what I am going with in this challenge

Interesting edit, Bailey. I didn't realize they were fish as I haven't downloaded the dng yet. Thanks for getting us started.

When I opened the DNG in the ACR module of PSE2019, I also found that the statues were nearly blown out, but there was enough info to deal with that in ACR. I wanted to bring out the curves and lines while intensifying the bright landscape. The edits in the PSE2019 included highpass layers with gradient maps to extract the contours, smart sharpen, filling noisy black areas with black, inverting, playing on pincushion lens distortion, added vignetting and texture, toning.

Thanks for the challenge Helen. I hope I have adhered to all the instructions. In ACR I made minor adjustments to the Blacks and Vibrance. Then took the result into PSE and applied an inverted mask to the photo layer. Using a soft brush I brushed parts of the image back in. I had to change the mode of the image to 8 bit before I could introduce a texture by Jai Johnson of the Daily Texture site. I applied two layers of texture, one below the image with the Pin Light blend mode and the other above the image with the Difference blend mode. To finish I applied a dodge and burn layer and at a very low opacity I dodged just under the arches to bring back a little bit of the reflected light.

Two nice entries Michel and Lillias. What I love about this challenge is seeing the various interpretations of the same image without resorting to composites.

ACR - Minor adjustments to highlights and contrast. PSE14 - Used "distressed wall green" texture from The Coffee Shop Blog then used an another texture (source unknown) under the image layer. preview.ibb.co/f2HmS0/bridge.jpg

- Made adjustments in ACR
- Converted to B&W
- Cropped to place the bridge in top half of frame.
- Applied a gradient map for a sepia/highlights toning
- Applied Neat Image for noise
- Dodge and burned the fish statues
- Darkened and blurred background that shows through arch on right

Here's my attempt. Started in Camera RAW with basic processing and adding some warmth and brightness to the lanterns on the bridge. I then used the Photomorphis Secret Sauce 10 preset in On1. I will often start my textured images using one of the Photomorphis packages that come with On1. I then went through each filter and adjusted to my liking substituting the textures used with one from Fly Paper textures and one that Julie shared at EV. Finally applied high pass sharpening back in PS. u.cubeupload.com/HMCA/On1SecretSauce10brid.jpg

Made minor adjustments in ACR and took into PSE. Did a sketch effect manually with several layers and blend modes along the way. Then stamped all layers into one and applied a Rough Pastels Filter and a multiply blend mode at reduced opacity. Cropped end result as seen.

I was playing around with ON1 RAW 2019 this evening that I had just downloaded so had to experiment with the bridge to see what it would do. A bit different from 2018 and using layers seemed a bit easier so that's what I played around with - adding a cloud texture, and applying a golden hour filter to the merged layers with a few tweaks in between.
