Hi, Thanks for the replies. I take photos of cars on the race track with 300mm lens, then composite in a photo of one of my 1:18 scale diecast cars. I have been using my 105mm macro when photographing the diecast cars, the image of the small model car fills the screen. I'm wondering if I need to worry about any lack of compression in the photos of the diecast cars. From reading more about telephoto compression, and the replies I got here, the compression is determined when I take the photo at the racetrack. As for the diecast car photos, I'm not sure I need to worry about 'compression' of the car photo at all -- and I can always use free transform in PSE to adjust the image if needed. Perhaps I'm over-thinking this issue. --guess I can't justify needing any new lenses! thanks to all brh

Hi,
I have a question about telephoto lenses. I like auto racing photos taken with 600mm lenses, I like the compression of the car. I also like to photograph scale models of race cars and composite them into background photos. My question...what length lens will give the same compression of a 1:18 scale model of a race car as a 600mm lens gives for a full size car? Do I need to use a 600mm lens to photograph my 1:18 scale model, or a different focal length?
thanks
brh
