Thanks Ken, I will got to avery.com and check them out. In the meantime, I've just discovered the View > Guide command which solves my problem. I feel stupid but happy.

Using PSE11, and 8.5 x 11 paper. I want to create a 2-fold brochure and am wondering if anyone has a way of marking out the folds on the screen that will either disappear in the printing or I can remove when I'm done and ready to print. I know the folds will occur at 3.66666 inches but it's awfully difficult to see that precisely on the Elements ruler. I hope this is clear and your suggestions will be deeply appreciated. (I've been struggling with this for awhile.)

Sorry, I misspoke. I've just looked at part of the video you linked and that's it, but I don't think I have those tools in Elements 11, do I? I've attached a shot of my toolbar.

Thanks, Sepiana. I tried using it but it just seems to squish everything together. I recall doing something with a brush or pencil making red lines down the section I wanted to get rid of and elements would join what remained together. Does this ring a bell?

Working with Elements 11 and darned if I can remember how to do this or where to look in Barbara Brundage's book. I have a picture of two people but there's too much space between them. I want to bring them closer together. How do I do it?
Thanks in advance.

On the other hand, if you merge the Color Fill layer with the Background layer, do Select>All, and apply the stroke, the result will be what you wanted.
Thanks so much, Sepiana, for figuring this out. It was awfully good of you to go to so much trouble. I'm off to apply a border. (I was interested that "Inside" gives sharper results.

Sorry for the double post.
I didn't pay attention to which layer was activated, but I think it was the Background layer.
I don't know why there are two "Margisons high res" layers.

The file is 1476 x 2022 pixels
Here's the work area screen:
And the stroke dialog:

Hi,
Thanks for all the responses. None works. I tried the layer from background, both opaque (Ctrl-J) and blank. The "marching ants" definitely twitch when I apply the stroke but when I remove the "ants" nothing appears. This with a width of 25 px. Interestingly, though, the little thumbnail for that layer has a red border! But not on the main picture.
I should have said I've done this procedure a number of times in the past and it works fine the way I described above. There's some little setting somewhere that's messing it up; but I'm darned if I know what.

Hi Shaun,
That's the method I did use.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried 25 px just now, along with the Outside setting and no luck. The opacity is 100%. The colour background is a pale yellow so the red should stand out easily.

I'm using PSE11. I've used Select All around a rectangle, tried the stroke outline in Center and Inside, using a bright red, and with the mode at Normal, and set the stroke as thick as 5 px. But nothing shows up. I deleted my Preferences file and that didn't help. Anyone?

I followed Sepiana's recommendation and got it! Thanks so much.
And it's nice to hear from two familiar "old" names.

I have a piece of text on its own layer. I want to apply a gradient across the text but I get the message that it must be "simplified" which results in a rasterization. When I apply the gradient it covers the entire page. Where am I going wrong, please?
By the way, I was stunned to find Elements Village closed after all these years. I've had a great deal of assistance from the lovely people there.
