Storm,
My wife voted on Wednesday and used an electronic voting machine. Next to each candidate was a square and she clicked a X in the square next to the candidate of her choice.
I voted on Thursday in Texas. I received a paper ballot. Next to each candidate's name is/was an oval. Using a pen I filled in the oval next to the candidate I voted for. For the local and state candidates (judges, railroad commissioner, etc.) whoever takes the most votes wins that election. That's the simple part.
The president is not elected by popular vote. The president is elected by the electoral college. I'm not an expert on this but I can give you a generalization. Each state has a finite number of "electoral votes" held by "electoral delegates" and each state has a different number of "electoral votes".
Within each state, IDEALLY, the presidential candidate who gets the most votes wins those "electoral delegates/votes". Whoever is able to get the most electoral votes, a minimum of 270, wins the presidential election.
That's why you see so much todo about campaigning by state.
This year there are four candidates (Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green). I don't know what happens if there is a tie or if one candidate is not able to get the required 270 electoral votes. I think it then goes to the House of Representatives and they vote.
I had to register to vote, which I did many years back. I think you have to re-register if you change addresses. You're asked to show a photo ID to prove who you are. Then you sign the rolls and you receive your ballot. ((The photo ID has become a point of contention.))
Election day is tomorrow. No more voting after Tuesday. It's been a rough election year(s). Most folks will be relieved when it's over.

Thanks for passing this on. I've passed it on to a couple of fellow photographers.

When I went searching for my west Texas sunrise I came across a birth announcement I did several years back. The mascot for the squadron I was in was a Tiger. So when a troop who worked with me became a first time father I created this birth announcement. ((I asked and received permission to post this from the baby's dad.)) We found bed sheets that had the tigress and cubs and another set that was just tiger stripes. We ironed the sheets and hung them on the clothes line. I then photographed them. The tigress became my background. Of course our neighbours were a bit intrigued with some of my camera ideas. I've also photographed wood, ceramic tiles, walls for use as textured backgrounds. For several years I would make these announcements for newborns in our squadron. It was a lot of fun and gained a lot of interest in our work.

My avatar looked a bit puny. i didn't want to just increase the size because it lost so much quality. I finally found the original image. So I cropped from the original and got a much better looking avatar. The original was photographed several years back. I was on my way to work when I heard the base gates were closed. Traffic was backed up about a mile. The morning was beautiful so I drove about 5 miles out of town, stopped and took this west Texas sunrise. I use it as my avatar and for my business card.

"Wouldn't care to move to the UK, would you?" Tempting, very tempting indeed.
Our tour in Edzell, Scotland was probably the best tour we ever had considering people. We felt very much at home. last year my son and his wife toured the UK. My oldest daughter was back about two years ago. She said she was homesick.
Yes, very tempting indeed.

We were in Edzell, Scotland (about midway between Aberdeen and Dundee) for three years. My wife kept a rain log. If only for 10 minutes it rained every Sunday we were there. Edzell and the people were fantastic. We loved the trains. We routinely we would take the Night Rider into London to shop, tour and visit friends. And everything in the country side was green. A beautiful color.

Our county library offers free computer classes. The instructors are all volunteers. Classes run 90-120 minutes in the evenings. They're not designed to make one an expert but rather to get people interested. I teach an introduction to Photoshop using PSE-8. My class is two sessions. The first night I cover the basics - items common to all versions of Photoshop/Elements. The second night we do a review then I guide students through the production of a digital product. I use images I've taken at Old Fort Concho which is a preserved Indian Wars fort of the 1880s complete with re-enactors. The fort will host a Christmas celebration over three days the first week in December. This year I plan on being there for all three days getting pictures of the vendors, reenactments and people.

One afternoon my supervisor and I traveled some of the country roads looking for Texas Bluebonnets (Texas state flower). One of the women with whom I worked asked for a copy of this bluebonnet. I made her a print that "made the rounds" and was soon requested as a going away gift for many of the folks who were transferring.

There were dozens more but I eventually settled on these 9 images. Two years ago the gardens were renovated. I will get back there in the spring.

Our city maintains an International Lily Garden. Sort of surprising for a town located in an almost desert. One can lose himself here when the lilies are in full bloom. My wife convinced me to take some pictures one afternoon. I was hooked. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance this year but I've attached an earlier image. In my next post I'll post my "Lily Fest" montage.

You're correct. I just use a white background out of habit.

www.ezpnp.com/s/en/2/product/Single-Button-Portable-Storage-Device-DM110-BD-345155.htmlI have their DM220 (my unit is about 10 years old). It burns directly to a DVD/CD. You can burn multiple times until the disk is full. The unit will tell you no more room so you can change to a fresh disk. On important assignments I would burn two or more disks of the same card (i.e. insurance claims, crime scenes). These were always shot in RAW + .jpeg. The only drawback is you need to have a supply of disks. The unit in the above link I believe is just a storage unit. You would treat it like an external hard drive. Many years ago there was a device called a digital wallet, with viewing screen but I can't seem to find one. The EZDigiMagic unit we had in the photo studio I purchased almost 10 years ago. My successors are still using the same unit. Hope this may be of some help. By the way I had occasion to speak directly with the EZPnP people in El Paso a few years back. They were super folks.
