All of these birds were seen at our feeders when we lived up north. It was always exciting when a new feathered friend would show up. All but the bottom two photos were from free photo sources, however, since this layout is over 10 years old, I no longer have the information of where I acquired the photos. The bottom two photos are mine.

Here's where the bird feeders were - even though we were in the heart of the city, the surrounding trees in our section of the subdivision created a little haven for wildlife. The lots were 1/2 acre. And yes, deer visited, too. My husband and his dad cleared the space to build the house. The neighbors were happy for the firewood. We had gas fireplaces so gave all the wood away. Did the firewood/ashes-mess thing once - never again. These layouts are over 10 years old. Unfortunately, I was not careful in dating them so I don't know when I made them. Bottom photo: cats4jan

The view from the other side. Boy, I miss that house and my feathered friends - even though I live on a lake and see different kinds of birds like white pelicans here. I don't, however, miss the weather up north. This photo is altered. I added the bushes next to the stoop to hide the a/c - the cat came with it. The other cat was his brother. The cat photos were taken years apart. You can see the cat on the stoop is in his declining years. EDIT - in looking more closely, although the brothers looked very similar, those two cats are the same guy - years apart… Click to go to imgbb to get a better look at the cats and check out my photo edit. One of my few tries at editing a photo using selection - never a favorite technique. Not the greatest job, but I was satisfied with it. Better than looking at the ugly a/c

When they build subdivisions in the midwest, the builders always try to keep as much of the natural landscape as they can. We were lucky enough to happen upon a lot in the subdivision that had some trees. The surveyor choose the location on the lot for the house - according to the parameters set up by the developer. Of course, the object was to keep as many trees as we could.
If you look at the overhead shot, you can see our section was the only one with trees. The other lots were flat and treeless. Of course there were other sections of the subdivision with trees.
We have always strived to buy houses with lots like this. We have been feeding the birds for years. But this house was the first one where a deer took up residence - right in the heart of the subdivision. And we had ducks walk up our driveway and go to our tiny man-made pond. How they found the pond and where they came from when there was no body of water around - is anyone's guess. Such fun.

That's a very impressive list of birds! I am so jealous. What a lovely house and surrounds, I can see why you would miss it.
