PSE photo merge works extremely well for me. Occasionally when I've not been accurate with overlaps or tried a multi row pano I use another tool - Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor)

The OP has been updated. See . . . NOTE. Thanks. Panos are so useful. Thanks Peter. ICE is outstanding and has the added benefit of also being able to create grid "panos" i.e., stitching a series of photos taken both vertically and horizontally in a gird. It is important to take the pano or grid photos "properly." I made a factsheet and it is available here. Mainly: - Shoot in manual exposure
- Use a set WB vs AWB
- Overlap
- Keep the horizon line straight
.. there are more points to consider. Thanks Clive

PSE photo merge works extremely well for me. Pete, thanks for the feedback! This has been my experience too. I just follow the PSE Help file instructions.
