For this challenge I thought we'd explore the compositional technique that I think officially is called sub-framing where part of an image is framed by another part with the intent of focusing the eye on the subject inside the frame. It can be quite effective in black and white as the eye is not distracted by the colour of the frame element. The frame can be anything from natural elements such as tree branches or gaps between rocks or things such as windows or gaps between buildings or under bridges. Sub framing is not a term I'm familiar with so it will be a nice learning opportunity for me. Thanks for the support articles. I will be reading them again. Looking back at some old images I came across this one which I think would work. Should be a great challenge. I deleted my original image and added one with a closer crop.  |

I'm impressed with the variety of frames that people have come up with so far - all work well to help focus attention on the subject. Keep up the good work - any of your images recent or historic converted to black and white by whatever method you choose are good for this challenge.

Thanks for the theme Tony. I played around with making my own sub frame in an image. The first is the city behind me from my car camera.  Then I tried using my cell phone camera to frame my morning coffee.  It's fun looking for all the framing options around. Bill |
