With a forecast of nine below, after spending most of the day blocking drafts from his stall, we wrapped Henry in his blankets in preparation of a long winter's night.
First layer is a huge down comforter.
Second layer is a thick fleece-lined stable blanket.
Third layer is a fleece-lined canvas blanket that is much too small for him; however, I am sure it is appreciated even though it is a bit short on coverage.
On nights like this, he has access to more Alfalfa hay than he could possibly eat; and, I make a couple extra middle-of-the-night visits with a few gallon jugs of fresh water that he drinks from a big stainless salad bowl, plus an extra ration of grain each trip.
Although it didn't make it down to the predicted nine below, the next mornings low was five below, American.
