Thursday_22-December-2022 With a forecast of nine below, after spending most of the day blocking drafts from his stall, we wrapped Henry in his blankets in preparation of a long winter's night. First layer is a huge down comforter. Second layer is a thick fleece-lined stable blanket. Third layer is a fleece-lined canvas blanket that is much too small for him; however, I am sure it is appreciated even though it is a bit short on coverage. On nights like this, he has access to more Alfalfa hay than he could possibly eat; and, I make a couple extra middle-of-the-night visits with a few gallon jugs of fresh water that he drinks from a big stainless salad bowl, plus an extra ration of grain each trip. Although it didn't make it down to the predicted nine below, the next mornings low was five below, American.

And that is why I now live in Florida. I sure don’t miss the cold and snow, but sometimes the intense heat makes me a bit doubtful…

The contents of Henry's water-tub frozen solid.
About noon on Wednesday_21-December-2022, the high temperature was 56°. From that point, it dropped steadily to 46° at mid-night and kept steadily falling all day Thursday to 9° at mid-night Thursday night, continuing to drop to a low of -5° Friday morning with a high of 3° Friday.
The daytime highs never broke the freezing point for the next three days, with morning lows in the single digits.
On Tuesday, the day of this photo, the morning low was 30°, with a high of 45°.
I took the above-freezing opportunity to carefully upend the tub and dump this huge chunk of ice.

Does Henry sleep standing up? Asking for a friend... It is very rare to see a horse lay down to sleep; like myself, they like to be ready to escape at the least hint of danger and don't want to get caught lying down.
About the only time I ever see a horse lying down is on the side of a hill facing the sun; they will stretch out and absorb the warmth.

Henry looks like he is glad to see the sun.
