Unlike me who rarely sees sunrise, my husband sees it most mornings when he is out for his morning walk. Today when he came home he said, "Look what I just missed this morning". It reminded me of our challenge image and I wanted to see if I could create something similar. Used two images from StockSolo for background. I really don't know if the ship would have been in complete silhouette if this had actually occurred. Does anyone know how it might have looked had it been an actual photograph? fotofrank , Howard , pontiac1940 ......Anyone else?

Does anyone know how it might have looked had it been an actual photograph? If the sun was a single shot and the sun was exposed perfectly like that then the entire foreground would have been pitch black or at least very dark. I'll find and example. The sun is more or less exposed properly and the foreground barley heads are black This shows some details in the foreground but the sun is blown out. Make sense?

Thanks, Clive. So the ocean wouldn't have had any highlights.....did wonder about that. Look forward to seeing what you find. Will check back after lunch.

Good idea to look for examples, Clive! I remembered there was a sunset cruise when we had visited Key West. The EP ship had actually made me think of it but I never thought to Google it. Here's what I found on their website. However, their ship is not positioned the way I had tried with the challenge ship. Proportionately mine seems all wrong now. Sorry Tpgettys......don't want to hijack your challenge.

I agree with Clive, it would be virtually impossible to get any detail in the yacht with such a bright background, unless you used some type of HDR or other fandangled method.

Thanks again Clive pontiac1940 . Thank you, Howard Howard .......sometimes one thing leads to another. Really just wondered what would have needed to be done to make it look more realistic.

So the ocean wouldn't have had any highlight It likely would have some highlights. Your sun is more exposed than my "barely" sun.
