Okay, I'm having a serious brain cramp here. I want to reverse this picture. In other words, I want a white tree on a green background. How do I do that?

Major Major, Duplicate background layer Shut off visibility of background layer. Work on background copy layer. Get rid of white background with magic wand tool Convert tree to black/white (ALT+CTRL+B) Press CTRI+I to invert Use unsharp mask to sharpen - I used radius=3 Set foreground color chip to green, then use paint bucket tool to fill in area of translucency surrounding tree.

Ken -
Thanks for the suggestion. Any idea how to get rid of the black fringing?

Major Major, Yes, that's the best way to do it.

Ken, that works beautifully. Thanks. I feathered the selection a little and had no black fringes. I had also tried it before you posted and didn't come up with anything I cared to show. Rita

Sepiana - Thanks! That worked great! Have to remember that one! Craig, you are most welcome! Yes, it is an easy one and it works just fine. If you want to get more serious about fine-tuning your selection edges, you can use the Refine Edge command. I noticed you have Elements 12 and 13. Starting with version 11, Adobe gave Elements the same Refine Edge as in Photoshop, the so-called "deluxe" Refine Edge.

Where is the "Refine Edge" command? I cannot find the "Masks" dialog box I've seen mentioned in other posts.

Hi fishcad,
I believe you have Elements 12. Go to Select>Refine Edge. In the Refine Edge dialog box, you'll find the Mask options in the Output To box. You have three options -- Layer Mask, New Layer with Layer Mask, and New Document with Layer Mask.
