Happy day! Today, at 1 PM the white pelicans returned to "my" ponds. They show up in April every year! These are "in transit" to breeding grounds farther north; however, some stay in our area all summer. For a few days, I've been going to the ponds every evening after dinner to check. Nope. Then today a friend, who walks her dogs at the ponds, alerted me so I went over.

Frank, great shot on more than one count -- fill-the-frame composition, pastel colors, amazing details.

April is when we see rain-bearing clouds bringing April showers. Dennis Dennis, what a capture! These rain-bearing clouds are impressive. Very timely interpretation of this theme.

April is when the male goldfinches change from their drab winter colour to bright yellow and black to attract females - this one is halfway there. And it's also the month when the grackles arrive in quantity and strut around bullying smaller birds while consuming vast quantities of bird food! Tony, great finding! My favorite is the 2nd image. You captured the essence of their "strutting".

April is when everything is in bloom. Bill, and you nailed it. Beautiful pastel colors and a DOF to die for. Well done!

Infant springtime foliage springs to life in defiance of brutal winter pruning. Brenda Brenda, the kind of image that makes one go back to it. Great capture of Mother Nature’s work. Your description says it all.

Leaves turn all sorts of colours and carpet the ground. Jacki, these images reminded me seasons are the opposite down under. Beautiful warm colors!

Bluebells grow in the garden.. Mart, great job capturing them. They look so delicate. April is definitely here.

The coulee hills start showing tinges of green ... Clive, nicely done! Green is definitely coming along. Just in time for this challenge.

Clive - I never knew there were white pelicans until they started showing up at our pond. They are so cool.

Tony - my first experience with Goldfinches was when I lived in Iowa. I was baffled when these gold birds started showing up. They looked like the drab ones, but…
I don’t know how long it took me to figure out they were the same birds. Guess I’m not so swift.

Clive - I never knew there were white pelicans until they started showing up at our pond. They are so cool. Janice. There are brown pelicans in the south. We only see the white pelicans that breed in Canada. They are fish-eating vermin but so photogenic. Always amazed at how graceful they fly. Clive

Clive - I never understood why the white Pelicans came all the way down here. When our pond was stocked with fish, we had upwards of 3 dozen feeding. I know why they stayed, just never knew why they showed up. This shot was taken outside my back door about 8 years ago. Note: the goose just had to join the party.
