This challenge is a little different as there's no specific tutorial to follow although there are many tutorials on blending two or more images into a single image which is the definition of compositing.. What this challenge is about is finding and combining two or more images to create a surreal result - in other words creating a resulting image that isn't natural. Anything goes from flying elephants to people riding on the back of a snail. I can remember 20 years ago with my first Photoshop Elements (PSE3) trying to figure out how to use layers and layer masks to put a giant spider on the side of a house for a friend who hates spiders! I'm sure you get the surreal idea and you can find many examples in, for example, the weekly Endless Possibilities Challenge or take a look at the portfolio of Luisa Azevedo Here's my version of a similar one I ran across - both the images were from Unsplash and they were combined with layers, layer masks and I used a luminosity blend mode to give a better matching of the tones in the two images I started with.
And staying with the Olympic theme here's another. Orange, basketball and player all from Pixabay. The idea for this one came from a Photoshop Masterclass called, you guessed it, Surreal Compositing
Have some fun and looking forward to seeing what weird things you can come up with! Tony

- Created the composite with three images from Pixabay. - Took the file into Topaz Studio (Beach Dreams). - Applied a texture by Art Cascadea (PaperDream2LightLake, Multiply blending mode, 45% Opacity). - Applied a gradient by Blake Rudis (Blue to Ivory, Soft Light blending mode, 100% Opacity).

What a fun challenge! I found three different images of the child jumping in StockSolo. I masked them together to create the background. Added fish and cat also from StockSolo.

I like the way you added the "cracks" from the mushroom, fotofrank.

Great start and interesting to see three very different looking surreal images - lots of imagination on display. Can't wait to see more surreal ideas.
Edit: make that 4! Another very clever one appeared while I was typing!

While I have done composites, the idea of creating something "surreal" would never have occurred to me. Having fun with this. Not an original idea, as I happened to see a picture of a tortoise with a fishbowl on it's back on Instagram and wanted to see if I could do something similar. Used a terrarium instead of a fishbowl. All images used from StockSolo.

I got the idea for this one from looking at some surreal images in a general search on the ‘net. The swan and the rose both come from Hiclipart. I blended them together trying to match the tones of each. I added a white background to which I applied a black to zero gradient. I then used a water brush texture by obsidiandawn and blended in with a mask. To complete the scene I also added a blue photo filter to add a hint of blue to the water.

Another from me as well. Saw the cabbage on StockSolo and went from there. Baby also from StockSolo. At the end I added the Billd2 watercolor technique from our EV days.....still one of my favorites.
