Another try...too dark possibly? I am struggling with that question as well. However, yours does not look too dark to me and I prefer the Chiaroscuro effect image over the original. (maybe by the end of the challenge I will remember how to spell.....Chiaroscuro.) On another note.....while I have tried this filter using Topaz Impression, I never chose to use it. I like the editing possibilities this tut has opened for me.

Another try with Scrooge from files (knew I had it somewhere and found it - I also incorporated an exposure adjustment layer which I found helpful (in PS but not native to PSE although I recall there was a way to add it). Tony

Scrooge is a great subject for this effect, Tony.

Another try...too dark possibly? Not at all - I think this is a very good result. I missed the focus/sharpness when shooting this image but I think the technique seems to save it. I agree that your treatment does make it more interesting and dramatic photo.

That depends. For (say) a portrait of the man to be printed, then perhaps too dark. However, say it was to used for a poster advertising a suspense thriller play at the local theatre ... perfect. Intrigue on the Moors

Looking at Scrooge again, I am wondering if you could add some darkness and maybe get rid of the top of his cane, tonyw? Thinking it would give it more of the Chiaroscuro look. Just a thought.

Thought I would try different subject matter this time. Image from Pixabay. Original image added to top layer and blended with Linear Burn blend mode at 100%. Original

still haven't found a landscape that I want to share. I found landscapes to be really hard and never did find one that worked when I was developing the challenge. There always seems to be some sky, which is naturally lighter than the subject you want to highlight.

Your shelf looks good and the darkness seems to give depth to the shape of the apples, Judy. Nice.

Thanks Helen. I tried a house one too and couldn’t get it to work either

Here's my attempt...the original is a very poor picture but this technique made it quite interesting I think. Comment/criticism most welcome. Original

the original is a very poor picture but this technique made it quite interesting I think. I agree Howard. Firstly your closer crop has made more of a feature of the chairs and the technique has given them more a kind of bleak/melancholy/interesting look.
