It's Saturday and time for another new Creative Effects Challenge. First off however, I want to thank Mike ( verber10 ) for having been part of our little CE Challenge team for past 6 months or so. Mike delighted us with some great challenges, and his last one was a superb finish. You will be missed Mike!! With that being said, we are now down to 2 in our CE Challenge team and we are looking for more volunteers to run this challenge every 2 weeks. If you have never done anything like this before, don't be shy, as neither Tom, Mike or myself had any previous experience in running a challenge. So, if you want to give this a go or have some questions on what would be involved, please message me and I will be happy to answer your questions. Today's challenge is to create an Infrared-like photo. It helps if your starter image contains some sky, but don't let that stop you. As ever, experimentation is the key to this. I started with this image, which I processed from RAW in LR5 to give it a sort of HDR feel. It took me a while to find a video that was actually for Elements, as most of them use Photoshop and the Channel Mixer, which is not available in Elements. This video from Kim Seng starts off in Photomatix to create the HDR feel, but you can use whichever photo editing software you like. He then takes it into Photoshop Elements 9 to create the finished Infrared photo. I followed all his steps, but found that my photo needed some extra attention, so I added a Levels layer to get my final look. So, let's see what great Infrared images you can come up with.

Thanks Simone for these. I enjoy Infrared that I even converted one of my camera. This is one I converted and added a glow.

Simone, an interesting process. I never even looked into using infrared and the tut left a lot to discretion. I'm not sure I got all the steps right.

Fotofrank, unfortunately, all I can see regarding a picture is a small square - no image. Is this to do with how you've uploaded it or is it my computer? This is all I see sometimes, when a photo has been uploaded Julie

FWIW, I see the image just fine. Thanks Tom, so can I now. That's so strange. I know sometimes photos can take a few seconds to load and, until they load, I see only a little box but I waited quite a while in case it was loading on the page. Having said that, the page was giving no signs of still loading. Oh well, I see it now, fortunately, but I wish I understood why I don't sometimes see the images posted.

Took me awhile to find an image that I liked.....and then decided to stick with B/W. I know some people love this effect but I have to admit it's not one of my favorite looks. Fun to try though, Simone i.imgur.com/CBhPrWD.jpg

Thanks Simone for the challenge this week. I woke up a little early this morning, so I thought I would give this a try. Like Helen, I tried 4 different pictures before I settled on this one. Good job everyone on your entries. They all look great. Image is from morquefile.
P.S. I just changed my Avatar. If it seems a little over the top let me know and I'll change it. I might just leave it on for today. Then change it.
