So, I am thinking it might want to finally make the move from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 over the Christmas break.
However, before I do so I thought I would check and see if people have experienced many issues after the upgrade with their photo editing software.
I am running LR5.7, PSE13 with a number of Topaz Labs plug-ins, and I do have OnOne 9 (but hardly use that at all to be honest), and I have the Spyder Express 4.5.5.
According to the little Get Windows 10 icon my laptop and my apps are all compatible, but I thought I would check first to see if others have had any issues with the above named software programs.
Thanks!

I bought a new desktop 6 months ago that came with Win10 and I changed the specs in order to stay with Win7. I've read mixed reviews about the Win10 operating system and auto update issues that may be a problem for some computer users, but as far as software issues such as photo editing with Win 10 I have not heard of many. I guess it's a personal choice but with me I'll stay with what works. I get my info off some reputable computer forums. Good luck on your choice .... Dave

I must admit the notion of automatic updates that can't be refused puts me right off.

Hi @storkington , I had the same thought as you, and I was getting tired of clicking remind me later, etc. so I crossed by fingers and made the jump. I have run into no real problems, it is just a little different from v8.1 but everything seems to work the same.
PSE13, one Topaz Labs plug-in, On10 and Spyder Express 4.5.5 all work as before.

I've upgraded to Win 10x64 5 months ago. Haven't encounted any problems so far. PSE 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 run just as always. Nik Collection is ok. Have tested Topaz and some more plug-ins -- without issues.
As for the annoying notification, I believe Microsoft is just following the Apple recipe: force up-to-date version to avoid fragmentation.

About the same for me (versions 6,10,12,13,14). Lightroom 4.7. OneOne 9.0 suite. (Photoshop CC subscription offered by Adobe for participation in the MVP program) Better speed, ease of use. No big problem except having to update the Spyder calibration to a recent version. Some glitches are to be expected but I don't think waiting longer will be useful.

Thank you everyone for your input; I think I will bite the bullet later this week.

Simone, it's always a good idea to backup all your files before you do anything, especially such a thing as this. Also, it's advised to do a system image too, if you can then you know you can put the computer back to how it was, should you need to. Should give you extra confidence knowing you can put it all back to to how it currently is.

If you can do a system backup too, you should have covered yourself fully. I've been running Windows 10 for a while now and I do like it. I've had some minor issues, ie my very old printer had to be uninstalled totally and then I did 'Plug and Play' so that it would search internet for appropriate drivers, which worked. The drivers on the disc are also old and I couldn't find any updated drivers myself, and nor did the HP techie I spoke with so I was certainly relieved when 'Plug and Play' worked

Far be it from me to have any knowledge whatsoever other than what I have read on the tech whiz-kid forums that I visit.
That being said, I have read far more negative things about W10 than I have good.
Here is my policy:
I LIKE W7 and I am going to stick with it so long as possible; in fact, I am considering a brand-new much more photoshop friendly computer that is W7; I wouldn't even consider anything else.
There are many out there still using XP and they love it.
All of that being said, I have read numerous accounts/instructions of how people are keeping their current OS and installing other versions on the same desk-top as secondary OS.
I have read reports of XP users having also W7 as a secondary OS, and both XP and W7 users having Linux as well; some have all three.
Don't ask me how they accomplish this; I just know that they do.
Another way I look at it:
W7 will most likely still be running strong long after my current poor-man's desk-top quits for good; I have a closet-full of old dead relics, both XP and W7 that attest to that fact; I will forestall changing over to some other OS that probably will be and more than likely is a huge downgrade until I am forced to accept the change by the need to replace the whole computer.
I have been around through several administrations and it has been my experience that anything "new & improved" is more often than not cheaper, less costly to produce, more money in the pockets of the manufacturers, and hardly ever an actual improvement.
Thanks for reading.

Hi BuckSkin, thanks for your insights.
Unfortunately I am running Windows 8.1, which is an improvement from Windows 8 which is what my laptop came with, but I am still not a fan of 8.1. Running more than one OS is not really my thing, the days of me spending time titivating my computers is long gone (photography has taken over) and so one OS only for me.
My other issue is that a lot of new programs will soon no longer support older OS versions and therefore a move the latest, albeit perhaps not yet greatest, is called for.

Hi Simone,
I pretty much jumped on Win10 on my Win8.1 laptop and the experience was surprisingly good. I decided to upgrade my Win7 system, which also went without a problem. I haven't found any software that doesn't work. I have found a few little annoying quirks with Win10, but nothing major. The biggest surprise was when they did the major update back in November. It was like getting a whole service pack and took awhile to update.

I updated to 10 from Win7 a couple of months ago, and now wish I had 7 back. Now I have to sign in with a password which I do not care for even leaving the computer turned on, but not using it for awhile I find I have to log-in yet again plus one other thing I really miss... When using the Alt-Tab key to go thru programs running, and also to switch back to your desktop... the desktop is no longer available. You HAVE to minimize your running programs to return to desktop. Merry Christmas!

Maybe I'm one of the unlucky ones: My new PC came with windows 10 installed. I soon stopped using Edge and installed Chrome instead because (eg) favourites/bookmarks were very user unfriendly. A month or so ago there seemed to be some kind of big windows update and after it things that had previosly worked needed new drivers. Not too difficult to do but it was a frustrating time trying to work out what the problem was. A WD My Passport back up drive - that worked with Windows 7 - was not recognised on the new PC, presumably because of windows 10. I needed an exchange of about 4 emails each way with WD support before being able to cure (I think) that problem. The latest issue is that my WiFi mouse and keyboard have become very flakey. The manufacturer has diagnosed the cause as a faulty WiFi receiver and is supplying a new one - but it remains to be seen if that actually sorts out the problem. So based on my experience I strongly recommend anyone to install windows 10 as late as possible to allow Microsoft AND other suppliers, time to sort out problems and get peripherals etc working smoothly and properly with Windows 10.
