Joe, great demonstration of cutlery, thanks for sharing. Julie, as Tom says, I have just got out some old 3D glasses that came with my tv, and while looking at my computer screen if I rotate them through 90 degrees it goes dark, so would work. I don't get the same effect with my sunglasses, but some might.

Thanks for all the suggestions you folks have given me. Unfortunately, my sunglasses didn't seem to have any effect so I tried with my cheapie 3D glasses. I took the arms off to make them easier to handle, stood my (point and shoot) camera on a mini tripod plus various things to get a suitable height, put a little plastic dish on a surface (made up to height) and then held the 3D glasses in front of the camera lens and took the photo. So, here is my pathetic attempt to get an image with some colours but it didn't really work very well, as you will see. Not to worry, I didn't think this would work, to be honest but was interesting trying it. My result was better than I'd hoped, tbh

Sunglasses that have polarizing filters tend to be pricey; most do not have that. At least you were able to prove the concept!
Thanks for the photo Julie; from it you can see that your polarizing filter is not doing a very good job. If it were your screen would appear black (see the above images from alex and helen).

Yes, I agree with you Tom. I'd noticed everyone else's photos had a black background. However, as you said, I was able to prove the concept which was all I wanted to do, really. I'm pleased I've tried it and, considering the 'equipment' I used, I think it's amazing that I got anything at all I've since managed to re-attach the arms to the 3D glasses and put them back on the shelf, just in case I go to see another 3D film Thanks again Julie

Here is my initial try at this technique. I didn't have any plastic stemware, but the crinkly plastic bag the polarizing filter came in turned out to be ideal! I put some leaves in the first one, and the 2nd one contains the lanyard for a lens cap.

That was fun playing around - plastic cutlery was my best result so far. Must clean my tablet screen as I had to clean the photo with the healing brush because the polarizer showed up all the dust and hair. Tony

I went to the Dollar store and picked up a set of cutlery. Woven Spoons.

I was reading through this and picked up on something that was said about polarized sunglasses that got me to thinking; if I understood correctly, I should be able to look through the sunglasses at the monitor screen and be able to rotate the glasses to a point that makes the screen go black.
I am thinking this would be a good way to test whether so-called polarized sunglasses were in fact polarized or falsely advertised; am I right ?
On another note, where did all of the pictures go ?

Those images were posted some time ago, before imgbb changed. As a result they are lost. I did find one that I had posted and have updated it (see above).
