I want to start naming people in my photos. I read this:- helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/adding-people.htmlbut no mention of searching existing photos. I have several thousand photos in my Elements 14 catalog. How do I get Organizer to start searching all these photos to identify faces so that I can put names to them; from what I have read it can only be done on import not for photos already in the catalog. I am wrong? I do realize that this is going to be a long process. Any advice please?

Re read and found this:-
Resetting face analysis
Resetting face analysis instructs Elements Organizer to reanalyze all faces in a catalog. When you reset face analysis, all existing people stacks in the Named tab are deleted. Elements Organizer analyzes the faces in the current catalog once again and displays similar looking faces as stacks in the UnNamed tab, where you can name them.
To reset face analysis, click Reset Face Analysis.
maybe what I want?

So sorry you're 'talking' to yourself athegn. Unfortunately I can't help as I don't use that facility. I came to the conclusion that if I don't recognise the people I'm photographing then I've got problems. I've always tabbed photos with the names of the subject(s) and continue to do it manually. When I did have a 'play' with the option I was fascinated by the odd things which were suggested as possible faces. Hope it works for you.

Have clicked UnNamed in the people section? If you have then try Re-Analyse.

Hi athegn,
It has been a long time since I tried to use the face analysis feature of the PSE Organizer, but I believe re-analysing may be your only option.
I do remember that in PSE9, when I last used this feature, it wasn't all that great as the program gave me "people" to identify that we in fact either objects or animals, however, I suspect that this may have been improved with PSE14.

"...I came to the conclusion that if I don't recognize the people I'm photographing then I've got problems..."
In order to keep my opening post short I did not explain how I acquired a large untagged catalog that now needs "people" tagging so that I and others can easily find images. Perhaps if I had I would not have got such a patronizing answer.
My main catalog, many times the size of this one, is cataloged; I do that as I add images.
However thank you to those who tried to help.

I guess I should have ignored you instead.

Now found I have to add significantly to the catalog by scanning several hundred slides; long process. So for the moment tagging of older images on hold. New scans will be added with relevant tags. But will study your suggestion before continuing any tagging.

I have looked in PSE 14 but cannot see a Re-Analyse option? I am currently not in front of my computer at home, so cannot help you precisely in locating this, however, somewhere in a menu should be the option to analyze photos/folders/catalog etc.

I have looked in PSE 14 but cannot see a Re-Analyse option? I only have PSE13 and don't use the feature. However, I just looked at it and it appears to be as simple as: 1) Edit: Select All 2) On the bottom toolbar, click on "Add People"

This link may help. At the bottom of the page is the "resetting face analysis". Warning though, it deletes all current faces and starts all over again. Mine ran for 2 days and was still finding faces. When it was done, there were still many obvious faces that were not seen as faces. So all in all, it helped tagged a bunch of faces for me, but the process wasn't as automated or thorough as I expected. Thanks, Roger helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/adding-people.html

Thanks everybody.
Having run resetting face analysis twice now and getting the same number of limited faces, I manually searched for faces to add. Strange that even after a full run I could still select a "face" photo, that analyse passed over, and the circle and message add face appeared for me to manually add. Why the analysing did not pick these face images I do not know.
