I am fortunate enough to be able to replace my obsolete PC while it is still working. On it, I am using PSE 10, where there are about 5 000 pictures in the Organizer, in one catalog, all tagged, plus some albums created. I bought a new PC, on which I will install Lightroom 6, cd version, and and PSE 14, downloading version, also already bought. I have never used LR before.
Q1: Does it make sens to transfer my catalog from PSE to LR, and if yes, how to do so?
I mainly shoot in RAW. Because my processing workflow would most probably start in LR, I tend to believe that it would make sens to transfer my catolog in LR and to handle it from there from now on. However, I do not want to lose all the classification work done in PSE, tags and albums.
Q2: What would be the main steps and the proper order?
Technical information:
- Old PC: Vista 32 bits
- New PC: Widows 10, 64 bits
- Available on external drive:
-- Up to date full catalog backup, performed “successfully” on the old computer through the PS 10 Organizer
-- Up to date full computer back up, performed “successfully” on the old computer from the Vista Backup and Restore Center.
Of course, I will have to install on my new computer LR 6 and PSE 14. But then what? It is not very clear in my mind. Unless it would be necessary, would make things easier or could serve a purpose I do not see at the moment, I would avoid installing PSE 10, since I plan to use PSE 14.
For now, I am looking for general information, orientation or tips.
