Sepiana, thanks for these details. Sharpening desaturated layers sounds like it might come in handy in other situations. I have to try that. Yes, I remember TimTeamouse. I still have some of his hatch brushes. A pity we lost him. Rita
Rita,
I should have been more specific. I sharpened the layer before I desaturated it. This got the layer ready for the sketch effect steps.
I miss Timteamouse. I wish he had joined us here; he had so much to offer.

I made a note of it. Thanks, Sepiana. Rita

Thanks again Sepiana for this fun action. After running the action I applied a layer mask and brushed back some of the blues in this picture of a lovely fishing village we visited in the Algarve, Portugal.

Pauline, great use of a layer mask! I really like the results. It looks like you are really getting into the action.

BillieJean,
This is very interesting -- with colors popping up here and there. I am amazed how this sketch effect likes architectural details (lines, angles, curves, etc.) It really brings them out. Great job!

I appreciate your kind comments Sepiana thank you. I applied a layer mask to brush back some colour but I think the Lighter Colour blend mode really made it pop.

Thanks for the kind comment Sepiana. I will be playing with this one lots.
The various Creative techniques and challenges on our forum generate some really great works, but not many of them end up in the Members Individual Galleries, which is a shame because it is from that section that we choose the Image of the Week.
A suggestion to the "admins" Would it be possible to create a general post suggesting that members copy their images to their own galleries well as displaying their results in the challenge threads.

Another quick try, after applying the Lighter Colour Blend mode I added bits of colour back with a dry media brush.

Pauline, you nailed this effect. I love it! Great idea to add some of the color back with a Dry Media brush. I had never thought of it.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that this sketch effect just seems to like images with lots of architectural details (lines, angles, curves). So, here it is.

Frank, I don't think I had ever used this effect on a flower image. It works great! I love how we can see the little details on the petals. Well done!

Thanks, Sepiana. Like the way it worked on these two images from Maine that I took last week.
