Auto FX Software, another company promoting their products, is offering their 16 Lighting Effects for free. Think of it as the Lighting Effects filter we knew and loved until it went away in version 12 (or was it 13?). Anyway, because it is a 32-bit program it should install as a filter in the 32-bit versions of PSE, but after that it installs as a stand-alone program on the desktop. I have found I can get some pretty nice effects with it.

Just a little clarification . . .
The .exe file is designed to install both the 32- and the 64-bit version of this plug-in.
Mystical_Gen2_PlugIn_32.8bf Mystical_Gen2_PlugIn_64.8bf
I had received an e-mail about this offer earlier today. When I ran the installer, this plug-in got installed in both 32- and 64-bit versions of Elements -- in my case, . . . Elements 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.
NOTE: Although this "pack" contains 11 plug-ins, only the Light FX plug-in is free and the Activation Code you will receive applies only to this plug-in. The other 10 plug-ins are just 15-day trial versions.

The .exe file is designed to install both the 32- and the 64-bit version of this plug-in. Excellent! I didn't see it in my PSE15 filters and assumed that the desktop app was all I could get. Thanks to your post I found that a 64-bit version was installed, but for some reason in PSE14 but not in PSE15. After copying the shortcut to the PSE15 plugins folder all is well; that is great news!

One should never assume this. When you install a plug-in and it doesn't show up in the Filter menu, this is usually due to . . .
The wrong version of the plug-in was manually installed (copied/pasted). For example, the 32-bit .8bf file (.plugin on a Mac) was installed in a 64-bit hosting application (or vice-versa).
OR
In the case of a self-installing plug-in, the installer failed to see the latest version of the hosting application. This seems to happen quite often after a new version of Elements is released. There are still plug-in installers out there which cannot "locate" Elements 15. You have to lend these plug-ins a hand!

The software didn't install on my Elements 15, (using Win10.) It did install in my 32 bit version of Elements. I currently don't have any other 64 bit versions of Elements installed. Does anybody have any ideas to get the 64 bit version installed, short of re-installing Elements 14?

This may help others who don't have another 64 bit version of Elements besides 15 to copy the plug-in from. You'll find the missing 64 bit plug-in in the stand alone version Program Files Plug-Ins folder. The 64 bit "Mystical_Gen2_PlugIn_64.8bf" is found in "Program Files (x86)/Auto FX Software/Mystical Gen2/Plug-Ins".

Thanks, tpgettys, for pointing this out to us. When I followed the link to the free lighting effects, on the same page I also found another free deal, 10 photo effect plugins. The free Christmas deal required my email to download, then they sent me a download link plus an activation code. The other free deal requires no email or activation code, just click download. QUESTION : (who would have thought I would have questions) both of these downloads are .exe application files, with installers I am assuming; when I install, will it automatically install in BOTH my E7 and E12 ? If not, how do I make in install in the Elements version of my choice ? Thanks for reading.

The installer will automatically install the plug-in in both Elements 7 and 12. If you don't want the plug-in installed in a given version of Elements, just navigate the path below to the Plug-Ins folder and delete the .8bf file.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\ . . . C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\Plug-Ins\. . .

Thanks so much; that is what I wanted to hear.....er...read. On the same note, before we got E12, I already had NIK installed in E7; can I just run the NIK installer again and it find it's way into E12 ? Thanks again.

The 64 bit "Mystical_Gen2_PlugIn_64.8bf" is found in "Program Files (x86)/Auto FX Software/Mystical Gen2/Plug-Ins". Okay, I installed the other FREE FX package on one of our machines and it found it's way into both Elements 7 and Elements 12 I then installed the package on another machine and it only showed up in Elements 7 So, I remembered Moto's post and investigated the situation. I found the necessary file, copy-pasted it in the E12 Plug-Ins folder, and all is now well. I was somewhat surprised to find that E12 is a 32-bit application. I just assumed it was 64-bit, grabbed the 64-bit file, poked it in there, and no go. That sent me to looking into the E12 plug-ins folder of the machine where it was already installed and working; sure enough, there it was, a 32-bit file. I re-did my file swapping, deleting the 64-bit file and pasting in the 32-bit and she worked. Thanks, Moto, for already blazing the trail through this.

Elements 12 is a 64-bit application on a Mac. Windows users had to wait until Elements 13 for a 64-bit version of Elements.
Here is a clue.
On a 64-bit OS system . . .
32-bit versions of Elements get installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\ . . . 64-bit versions of Elements get installed in C:\Program Files\ . . .
