Last night I had something new happen; of course something new is always happening to me.....
I was minding my own business, editing away on some photos, when I clicked Edit > Fill Layer, and then things went wild!
As I was about to click "Okay", Chrome (browser) opened up and started creating tab after tab after tab, every one for the Adobe Elements Help Site, it just kept opening tabs.
As we are on Dish satellite service and have a very limited monthly capacity, and our month had just turned over, of course I was thinking "well, here goes our usage for the month"
Thankfully, we have a mechanical Ethernet "Kill Switch" (a wonderful investment, by the way) and I had the presence of mind to think to flip it OFF; I thought I was going to have to just unplug the computer.
Once the internet connection was OFF, it just kept opening tabs, only now they all were saying "there is no internet connection"
I finally managed to be quick enough to mouse over the Elements icon on the task-bar and then mouse to the "Okay" button on the fill layer dialogue, before another browser page took over the screen; it took me several attempts; once I clicked "Okay", everything instantly settled down and I was once more in control of the situation.
I never even got close to the "Help" button, yet it acted like the button was stuck.
Has anyone else had this to happen ?

Has anyone else had this to happen I have, on very rare occasions seen something similar. I do recall on one occasion I finally figured out that my mouse cord was touching my wacom pad, and when I moved the mouse all hell broke lose!

If you haven't done so yet, it may also be a good idea to download the Help file for the versions of Elements you have, version 7 and 12. Just in case you need to check this file and you can't access it. Thanks; I was unaware that those files could be downloaded. I very much prefer to have such manuals and instructions downloaded and saved, as I can access them without having to use up the internet.

Quite some time ago a similar thing happened to me and I discovered it was because my wireless mouse and my wacom pad were too near each other on my desk and that seemed to cause some interference between the two resulting in this erratic behaviour onscreen.

I myself find it very handy to have the Help PDF file. I have downloaded it for every version of Elements I have.

That may very well be a factor; I do have a wireless mouse/keyboard and an UGEE pad and they do reside side-by-side; the two have been thus for ages and this is the first time I have ever had this to happen but things may have lined up just right to cause it. The curious thing is that usually it piddles around and takes it's own sweet time in opening new tabs/pages; but, when this started happening, the tabs and pages were lightning quick.

I am curious. Is Chrome by any chance your default browser? The reasons why I am asking this are . . . 1) Adobe uses your default browser and 2) Chrome is "famous" for the behavior you describe.

Yes; Chrome is the default; I have FireFox for certain tasks; and, it has been ages since Internet Explorer has been open and then only when some program or other opens it from a help menu or such. This site and several others work best for me using Chrome.

After you posted this thread, I decided to check Elements 7 Help. I was in for a surprise!!! When I clicked on Help>Photoshop Elements Help (F1), instead of my default browser (Internet Explorer 11) being used to access the Adobe site, Chrome (my secondary browser) was the one that popped up. Go figure!!! So, I checked on another computer with Edge as my default browser, IE11 as my secondary browser, and NO Chrome. Edge was the browser used. This makes sense as Adobe uses one's default browser.
As a side note -- When I checked the other versions of Elements I have (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15), Chrome never popped up when I tried to access Help. It was always IE11.

The curious thing about my episode is that I never clicked on "Help" at all; it just took the bit in in it's teeth and ran through the bridle. What is this "Edge" browser; I have never seen mention of it before ? Thanks.

>>> It happened again <<< only this time it happened to the wife and on a different computer. She was editing pictures and saving jpegs when all of a sudden she hollered that her computer had gone crazy. She had clicked SAVE and was about to click OKAY in the little jpeg quality box that always follows the save dialogue when saving jpegs, and Chrome, which had up until this point been closed, started rapidly opening tab after tab of the Adobe HELP page. It was opening tabs and also opening more instances of Chrome and filling them with tabs as well. I quickly flipped OFF the internet disconnect switch, but that did not slow anything down. I right-clicked the Task-bar and opened Task Manager, hi-lighted Chrome/Elements Help, and clicked End Task; the crazyness came to a halt --- but only so long as the Task Manager window was open; when I exited Task Manager, the crazyness immediately began again.
Like before, when it happened to me, after numerous attempts, I was finally quick enough to X away Chrome and click Okay before another Chrome window opened; I mean I had like a millisecond window of opportunity.
Once I managed to successfully click Okay in the jpeg save box, all the weird crazyness went away.
It took me another five minutes to close out all of the Chrome windows and instances.
While it was loading Adobe Help pages like a runaway horse, it was creating new tabs quicker than shell-casings flying out of Rambo's .50-caliber Browning.

Hi BuckSkin,
There have been quite a few reports on the Adobe forums concerning Chrome and PSE Help. Some of them are quite similar to what you described. I remember one suggestion that was successful and fixed the problem -- uninstall Chrome, download and install it again. You may want to give it a try!
