Thanks Sydney and dandc. There were a lot of gulls that just wouldn't cooperate......will post a shot later that shows my beach intruders!

Great image and good crop to make the viewer focus on the rocks and breaking wave while still retaining the overall feel of the setting.

Great image and good crop to make the viewer focus on the rocks and breaking wave while still retaining the overall feel of the setting. Thanks, preeb. Seems whenever I bring my wide angle I would have been better off with the zoom.......as was the case here. Because I couldn't get close enough, this image is heavily cropped. Still need to add a picture of those pesky gulls.

Still need to add a picture of those pesky gulls. I rarely have a photograph ready for display without any cropping. Sometimes they are cropped heavily. I have lately taken to keeping my 70-200 on the camera most of the time. I can usually find a way to take several exposures and stitch them, then crop and end up with the finished image that I wanted. A photo like this one that looks like a wide angle shot, but was actually about 10 images stitched and cropped to look like a wide pano. I find that it tends to look more natural, more like my eye sees it.

preeb Oh, I so need to do that! I have been on the fence about that lens.....thinking it will be too heavy for me......however, I could certainly do it with my 24-105. We are going to The Tetons in September so I should start practicing now!!!!

Here's one where I don't mind the birds and another one where I made them disappear.

Really like your first image …would make a great print and/or a desktop image.
I also like your image with the birds. I took notice that the horizon “line” differs in the two images.(bird and non-bird images). The horizon line in the bird image falls below half (50%) thereby emphasizing the sky. What if you cropped that image so the horizon line was above 50%, thereby putting emphasis on the waves, the shore and the birds. You will still have a great looking sky and a very interesting foreground.

All beautiful, Helen - especially the one where the birds have disappeared.
