This has just started happening when I start PSE (I'm using version 9). I get the following error message: I then click OK and it opens fine. But why the error message & what does it mean? The only thing I can think of that might be related is that I have installed OnOne's Perfect Effects 9.5 but I have it as a stand alone product. Anyone any ideas? Bayla

It looks like something went wrong during the installation. DLL files can get easily damaged or corrupted. I would recommend you uninstall/reinstall the program. Just make sure to turn off your anti-virus program (as recommended by on1). Also, if you are on Windows, run the .exe file as administrator. If this doesn't solve the problem, I would suggest you contact their Tech Support.

Also, are you sure it didn't also install in PSE? I think it does so automatically if it finds the program on your hard drive.

As far as I'm aware, when using earlier versions of PSE (before version 11) it can only be used as a stand alone product. The strange thing is that both programs seem to be working fine! Bayla

I thought the same thing but the installer is designed to look only for the compatible hosting applications. Perfect Effects 9.5 is not compatible with Elements 9, only with Elements 11 and above. Theoretically, this program should not have installed itself in this version of Elements. But who knows? One way to find out is to check the Plug-ins folder in Elements 9. I checked and Perfect Effects hasn't installed itself in PSE9....but my other OnOne plugin Photo Essentials 4 is no longer working....I get the same error message pop up whenever I try to access any of the tools (Cut it Out, Enlarge it, Frame it, Make it Better, Make it Cool.
Could installing Perfect Effects 9.5 have caused this to happen?

Theoretically . . . no, it shouldn't have. They are two different (independent) programs. I believe it is time for you to contact on1.

Are they produced by the same company? Bayla Yes, both Photo Essentials and Perfect Effects are produced by onOne software (now calling itself on1). However, Photo Essentials is no longer being updated.

I believe it is time for you to contact on1. Sepiana, Took your advice and contacted them. They weren't particularly helpful IMHO. Here's their answer: Thank you for using onOne Software! We apologize for the frustration, but you will not be able to open any of the Essentials 4 plugins from within the Suite 9. This old program will not integrate with the Suite 9.5 in any way.
I am not trying to open Essentials 4 from within Perfect Suite 9. I only have Perfect Effects as a free stand alone program! I told them that! And it worked perfectly well when I had Perfect Effects 8 as a stand alone plugin!
Please follow the instructions in the link below on how to fix this error message:
www.on1.com/support/6637/
That leads me to a page about a different error message - Ononecorefoundation.dll Is Missing From Your Computer and how to correct the error in Photoshop CSX
So where do I go from there? Uninstall Perfect Effects and see if Essentials 4 starts working again?

Bayla,
I would uninstall Perfect Effects and start over. Just make sure to turn off your antivirus software temporarily and to install this program as an administrator. Here is something else you could do -- make a fresh download. I am wondering if your current download got somehow corrupted. If it still doesn't work, I would contact on1 again.
BTW, I also have Photo Essentials 4 (installed on Elements 10). No problem.

Bayla,
Give it a try. See if installing Perfect Effects first will fix the problem. If not, contact on1 again. Maybe you will have better luck this time.

Bayla,
Great news! I am so glad to hear it worked. I can't take the credit though; it was your idea to switch the installation order.
This was quite a learning experience. Now we both know what to do if someone else reports the same problem you had.
