Lillias, I tried to figure out how you did the silver version. I put a black layer above the Chrome Gradient set to Hue Blend Mode (Saturation and Color also work). Left out the Noise. Is that what you did, or did you make a different Gradient ?
This is the Silver Fox, and I'm the copy-cat.

You went to a lot more trouble than I did but your way works too. I just went to the gradient tool and under the Metals tab I chose Silver. Then I edited it in the same way as the Copper one. From memory I think I did put a little noise on mine and blurred it. I believe that part can be done better in the full PS as opposed to PSE but PSE is what I have so… 'I'm the copy-cat' they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so thank you so much.

Here are two more possibilities:
You can use the Copper gradient from the original tutorial and apply a Hue/Saturation layer to desaturate the gradient or change it to a different color (as shown in the tutorial below).

OR
You can create a silver/stainless gradient from scratch.

Elements can handle applying noise and blur to an image as well as its big brother, Photoshop. The Add Noise filter has the same options in both programs. The only difference between the two is that Photoshop has one more option in the Filter>Blur menu -- Shape blur. But this wouldn't be used to create this effect anyway.

Lillias, actually I went to a lot less trouble. 3 clicks: fill a layer with black, change the blend mode, merge with the original gradient layer. No editing involved. But I'll try your method now. It might come in handy for something else. True-looking silver is always hard to make. Gold is much easier.
Sepiana, the Hue/Sat method was my first idea, but I couldn't get a true silver with it, there always was a blueish tint.
Anyway, we all got there

Or you could use the built in metal gradients in elements It was the Silver metal gradient in Elements that I used for mine fotofrank. This is a great all action one, love it. |
