In this challenge you will create a fun and interesting pattern out of an image by flipping and rotating it, and using the layer blend modes to combine them. This TUTORIAL was written for Photoshop but works fine in Elements. All the Flip and Rotate Layer commands in Elements are under Image>Rotate and not Transform as in Photoshop. How far you go and which Blending Modes to use are up to you and the particular image you use. If you find the pattern too light or dark at the end you can add any of the usual adjustments to correct it. Levels, Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation can all help. It may help to crop square to start or you can do it later but if you want to create and save a pattern which can be used later as a fill you might want to finish by resizing to say 200x200 pixels and then Edit>Define Pattern and it will save it as a Pattern that you can use later for a fill – to make your own wrapping paper for a special present for example. Here is what I came up with (click for full size image). I am eagerly looking forward to your creations! Original

Mine seem too busy also. I like the simple look of geometric shapes.

Another fun one to play with. This started out as a group of orchids. Finished off with an ON1 effects border and Jodi frame Tony
