I am posting this a day early, as I will be away for the next 2 weeks, and as I will not have access to the internet, I will not be able to comment or participate during these 2 weeeks. This month I would like you to think about lines; this time around your photos can either contain actual lines as a subject, or you can use lines in your composition, such as leading lines and for double points you can use both subject and compositional lines. So a pretty wide theme for you to go out and shoot. Lines can be found almost everywhere, in architecture, in nature, and lots of examples of lines in your home. My photos were shot last month when we still had snow on the ground (which has thankfully now disappeared!) and are a combination of lines as a subject and leading lines. I used Lightroom CC to convert my photos from colour into B&W. I started with a generic B&W preset and played around with the different sliders until I had something that matched my vision for each of the photos. We previously had a request to open this theme up to include Sepia conversions, so, if you wish, feel free for this month to use sepia, B&W, or monochrome colour palettes. I look forward to seeing what you all have managed to come up with when I get back in 2 weeks time!

Went out shooting for this theme tonight..... The top image was edited in SE. The bottom was edited in LR using a preset I downloaded from The Black & White Photography Book.

Helen, wonderful leading lines in both of your images; I really like your conversions, especially on your first image.
Alex, great image and yes, lots of lines in this one! I like the perspective on this image as it not just brings out the lines of the structure, but gives a great sense of height!

Does this qualify? My first attempt at B&W. I was originally going to call it 'Tide's out'.

I am running on Elements 2 at the moment. Couldn't find how to do more with this.

whippet Thanks for joinging in with your first B&W attempt! I like the lines of the steel structure, especially as they go against the leading line of the canal (I assume it is a canal!). Your second entry is very interesting given the perspective the plant was shot at! blackmutt The lines of the hosta leaves are always great to look at - thanks for joining in! PeteB great leading lines and I love your conversion. Please tell me though that you did not take this in May!!! Bailey I like the combination of the vertical and leading lines. For all of you who participated, it would be great if you could all let us know how you achieved your conversions!

Thank you Simone. Actually, that 'canal' is the mighty River Tees. Length: 137 km (85 mi) I will let you off though. That shot was taken near the river mouth - and the tide was out.

Simone My image was converted using a Black & White adjustment layer (part of Elements+). The snow scene was photographed in the beginning of April. Thank you for the comments.

Hi Simone ... For all of you who participated, it would be great if you could all let us know how you achieved your conversions! The image on the right is the original colour image. I used the Black and White Adjustment layer in Elements+ to convert to B&W. None of the presets gave me what I was looking for in one go, so I set the Preset to Custom and played mainly with the cyan and blue colour sliders to adjust the tones of the sky. I tweaked the other colour sliders to make slight adjustments to remove highlights. I then used a PSE Levels Adjustment Layer to set the black and white points and a Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layer to add a little more contrast to the driveway to highlight it a little more. Finally just lightened the shadows slightly under the first 2 arches and the guttering along the footpath on the right to bring back a little detail.
