PSE 2018 is loaded on my C drive. All the files I use are loaded on an external drive J.
I have moved some files within the Folders on the J drive from which I have making "instant albums" . When I open the Organizer and open the Folders, the content changes don't appear. The Folders I am trying to open have not yet been made into an Album.
I'm just wondering if the drives' content updates when you open the Organizer.
Thank you very much.

Suzie -
I don't use the Organizer, but I believe many have stated here that you must move files from within the Organizer for the program to be able to track the changes.

They are not folders, they don't contain photo files. They are just lists of items in your catalog, similar to the 'playlists' created to store the lists of audio files to play in a given order. Those lists only exist within the catalogues. They contain pointers to the photo files identifiers in the catalog which in turn contain pointers to where the photo files are stored on your folders and drives. Yes, you can create 'instant albums' by stating which subfolder will be scanned to produce the album, the list of all the files in the subfolder. You don't create photo files duplicates. In the same way you can create different albums (lists) for different purposes without having to duplicate the photo files. You can't see anything about albums in the folders or even in the files themselves. Only the catalog knows them.
Another example: If you have included a given photo in an album (or in several ones), you may move the photo file itself from within the organizer to another subfolder or other drive. Then the content of the item (which keeps its internal identifier in the catalog) is updated to store the new drive and path. For the album, nothing changes. The list of files still points to the old unchanged identifier and that database record shows the new file location.

A big thank you Michelb. Now I understand. Suzie I am glad this could help you. The Adobe help does not make clear what are really 'albums'. In older Elements versions and in Lightroom they were called 'collections' which is a better description for me.
