I respectfully disagree. The amount of CPU and RAM it uses is related to the service if anyone is concerned why it is running all the time, which you appeared to be, rather than started when the Organiser is launched and stopped when the Organiser is shutdown. You said I didn't really like the old way. The Adobe Active File Monitor always ran in the background even when Elements was closed. The fact that it uses a miniscule amount of CPU and RAM suggests it needn't be a concern for anyone. To have the service stop/start in sync with the Organisr would mean an additional listener service or additional code to the existing service to "listen" for when the Organiser is started/stopped. |

Elements 14 ignores the pictures imported and the folders created by LR, whether I cliclk the dialogue box "Notify Me" or "Automatically Add files to Elements organizer". Fauxtoto,
I also have Elements and Lightroom (on two computers, Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro). I had not encountered this problem because I don't use the Watched Folders feature in the Organizer. However, I was so intrigued by what you reported that I decided to enable this feature and see what would happen. Bingo! The same thing you describe happened.
I don't believe this is caused by the OS or by the presence of Lightroom. I am inclined to look at the Watched Folders feature as the potential culprit. I am on the same wavelength as Michel. And, yes, I can confirm it. Complaints abound!
I have never trusted it and there are many complaints about it, so I totally understand your position.
When I have a situation like in the original post, I simply reimport totally the master folder. Already present files are ignored, new ones are added, which is what you expect from the 'watched folders'. |

I don't believe this is caused by the OS or by the presence of Lightroom. hmmmmm.....I'm not sure I could exclude the presence of LR as at least a contributing factor. If you uninstall LR (and I would under no circumstances ask anyone to do that) I suspect Watch Folders could very well work the same way as it does on my computer as described in my earlier posts.
The fact that Watch Folders works to a large extent on my computer with no LR present suggests to me that there might be some sort of conflict/bug between the File Monitoring Service, LR and PSE and/or the OS.

Maybe you have a different OS Hi Bailey, I am on a 2 years old Dell 8900 desktop computer , Windows 10 reguraly updated, now version 1803, 16 Go memory, I7 6700 Intel processor and a well known manufacturer video card. There is no doubt I meet Adobe's minimum technical requirements for the products I am using: Elements 14 and LR6, version 6.14. Operating system or hardware should not be an issue here. |

I wasn't implying you don't meet the minimum specs for PSE.
I have Win 7 SP1 with an Intel Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA video card and 16G RAM which also well exceeds the min. specs for PSE 14 as your setup does as well. The only difference between your setup and mine, based on the info you have posted, is the OS and you have LR installed and I don't.
Yet, Watch Folders works without fail on my computer when I launch the Organiser after adding images anywhere below my images' root folder. Therefore I can't exclude LR and/or the the different OS's at least contributing to Watch Folders not working on your computer when you launch the Organiser.

Sepiana, thank you for your curiosity, thank you for examining the issue and doing the experimentation, and thank you for sharing the results with us. I am following you and Michelb on this one. My mind is made, case closed : For reasons of unreliability, I have deactivated the Watch Folder function in Elements 14, and I forget about it. |

Fauxtoto, you are most welcome! I am a firm believer in troubleshooting based on hands-on experience instead of one based on assumptions.
Smart decision! Same here! Case closed: Watched Folders will remain turned off. I see no point in dwelling on the OS and Lightroom variables. As Michel pointed out, there are many complaints about this feature. Such complaints abound on the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum. If you remember the days of the EV forum, they were also a constant presence on the Organizer board. |

No problem Fauxtoto, I hope you find a solution at some stage. On the rare occasions Watch Folders doesn't work on my computer (circumstances posted earlier) I just simply import manually using File->Get Photos and Videos.... I use Watch Folders because it works on my computer, but to be honest, if Adobe decided to ditch the function for whatever reason I wouldn't mind at all. Importing manually takes me only a few seconds extra compared to importing using Watch Folders. Good luck  |
