Hello All,
I purchased a DVD of Photoshop Elements 2018 (Ebay - 40 bucks including s/h - I know it is a risk, but I'm deserving some good luck and the seller had 100% feedback).
The trial edition of PSE 18 is still on my PC. As is PSE15. I am wondering what happens to my old catalogs during this new install.
While installing the new PSE 2018 will there be a part during the installation process that states something like, "Do you have any old catalogs that you want to import?"
I have read that Adobe has a tool that aids with uninstalls of their old products. Is that tool available to me (a non-cloud user)?
What are some of the common mistakes that get made during this type of procedure? I want to proactively ask now.
Here is what I assume would be an adequate install:
1. Update and optimize any catalogs that I want to keep (one's that I want for my new PSE 18).
2. Uninstall all previous versions of PSE using the Adobe tool mentioned above.
3. Install my new PSE 2018 via the disk that I bought.
4. During the install it will ask me if I have any catalogs that I want to import into the new PSE 18. (I'm guessing here)
5. I tell it yes.
6. I navigate to that spot and do the importing of previous catalogs that I want to keep.
7. Let the install finish and then all is well. (I hope!)
Thank you,
Dean

Hi Dean,
Welcome to the forum! Let me see if I can answer all your questions:
The trial edition of PSE 18 is still on my PC. As is PSE15. I am wondering what happens to my old catalogs during this new install.
If you have a trial edition of PSE 18, you might not need to do anything other than enter the software code provided with the copy you purchased. You shouldn't need to do an install.
While installing the new PSE 2018 will there be a part during the installation process that states something like, "Do you have any old catalogs that you want to import?"
I think so. If not, you can import one from within PSE 18.
I have read that Adobe has a tool that aids with uninstalls of their old products. Is that tool available to me (a non-cloud user)? Not sure, but I don't see a reason you need to do this.
What are some of the common mistakes that get made during this type of procedure? I want to proactively ask now. Make sure you always have a backup of your catalog and photos just in case.
Here is what I assume would be an adequate install:
1. Update and optimize any catalogs that I want to keep (one's that I want for my new PSE 18).
That is fine, but as I mentioned earlier if you have a trial version of PSE 18 there should be no catalog conversion necessary.
2. Uninstall all previous versions of PSE using the Adobe tool mentioned above.
Usually PSE versions co-exist just fine, so I don't see a reason to uninstall the old versions.
Your other steps are fine (or I already commented on them).

Andy is correct - all you have to do is enter the license number on the trial copy and you're all set to go. You will not need to touch anything else.
