To begin experimenting, I downloaded this tree image from Pixabay, then converted it to B&W. I then added a 2-color Gradient Map adjustment layer (orange to light blue) and set the blend mode to Soft Light.

"Elegant" is the first word that came to mind when I saw your image above, Pete. My second thought was that I wouldn't have perceived it that way had it been presented in color or even as a straight black and white.
