Bill, Great action picture, but can I be really stupid and ask which sport this is? I see roller skates/blades but I don't see a ball/puck/sticks....in fact it looks pretty physical (wrestling on skates?) & there appear to be both men & women playing.

It's roller derby Bayla. It's a very, very physical game (basically a race around a track) that both men and women do play. The jammer is the one with the star, and the other skaters try to stop her from racing around the track against another jammer from the other team. There's a lot more to it of course but that's the thumbnail view. The ones in the stripes are referees, and the gent in the pink shirt in the background is one of the scorekeepers.
London Roller Girls (http://londonrollergirls.com/) is one of the best leagues in the world (as is Gotham, the red jersey in this image) and the sport is very popular in Great Britain. It's great fun ... I hope you can find a match to go to.

This has to be the "most poignant of all the "J"s". Thanks for all the history behind it. Brenda - I second that. What a great photo and story.

What a capture! The expression on the face of the player facing the Jammer says it all. Great action shot for this theme!
