Excellent again, Clive, thanks for sharing. Particularly love no 2 with the foreground figures and the reflections in the (frozen?) lake. Stay warm out there.

I agree and am also very envious. I bought Joanna Lumley’s DVD of her excursion to see the Northern Lights and have watched it so many times ...........I think that is as close as I will ever get to seeing them. Thank you soooo much for sharing your fabulous experience.your photos are truly amazing.

Thanks for all of your kind words. Helen, that's my wife standing by the rental SUV. I am going to process all of the decent shots again from scratch. I don't trust the colors on my laptop. The first two nights were great, but Saturday started ok then clouds moved in and it was over after 30 minutes. Sunday night was also cloudy so we never went out other than to confirm that it was indeed cloudy. We saw lights on 3 or 4 nights and feel very lucky. A friend came here a few years ago and stayed four nights and never saw auroras because of cloud. January and February are the best months for the lights and clear skies but it can also be -40°C. That becomes an issue of you are just standing around and running cars all the time is annoying as there's no way to turn side lights off on the newer cars. Car lights are bad. Jackscrap, my right-hand fingers were cold as I needed to fiddle with camera buttons, but honestly -14°C is not cold if you are dressed well. Winter hiking in those temps is fine...it is all about the layering. Bailey, seeing lights is obviously difficult (well expensive) if you have to travel far. Plan on staying several days at your destination because the actual lights are never a certainty and then clouds can interfere. I don't know what it's like in Iceland or Norway, but hotels and car rental are relatively expensive up here. Most of the Japanese and Chinese tourists here rely in tour busses dedicated to aurora night tours. These tours are pricey but so are rental cars. We are paying 2½ times more per day than we would at home for the Ford escape SUV. We got a special rate on the 2½ star hotel because I booked through a fishing lodge (where I've been) that gets a special "tourism" rate. All in, we paid about $500 CAD per day for flights, rental and hotels..and the flights were using points vs cash. Well worth it. We are packing this morning and should be home by 9 PM tonight. Good time here...we are most fortunate. Clive

I'll echo the comments of the others - spectacular! It is great that you are able to see them first hand.
