Alright folks, here's the final product (unless they win their league, in which case I'll have to throw "League Champs 2019" on there). I very much appreciate everyone that weighed in with comments, suggestions, and critiques. All of that helped to make this a successful project, and my nephew, the coach, seems very pleased with it.

Looks great. Worth all the effort you have put into this and it's nice to know your nephew likes it too.

seattleddc , I had no doubts that your project would be a success and that your nephew would be very pleased with the results. You should be proud of yourself!

Alright, final final product. They won the state championship. Quite an accomplishment, so I added that in. In retrospect, the only thing I'd do differently would be to make the individual pics smaller, and try to add in a team photo in the middle, with the individual pics around that. Lesson learned.

I wouldn't have even gotten close to this final product without all of the help on this forum. Again, thank you everyone.

Congratulations on winning and finishing your project. If you are feeling ambitious, you could give a new layout a try.
If you wanted to make all the photos smaller, you could select all of the photo layers and using the move tool, push in on the corner - all the photos would become proportionally smaller all at the same time. After resizing them all, it would be simple to move each individual photo to make room for a team photo.
Before attempting this, save your project with a new name to prevent saving over your original project. Of course, you would need to be working on a psd file. If all you have left is a jpg, it’s too late to move around the photos.

Looks great, I'm sure everyone will love it. I can certainly identify with looking at something and thinking of what I could have done. But that's how we learn and expand on our ideas. I know my grandsons would be very happy to have a poster like this.
