Looking at Helen's barn image it would seem that images with well delineated geometric shapes and contrast work quite well for this technique. Now I just have to find one to work with.

Yes i think that you are right . And you don't need to be too fussy about selecting every detail in the original - 'simple is best' seems to be the motto with this one

Frank great job. Good clean sharp lines and I love the hints of colour and the shading. Thanks for throwing your hat into the ring on this challenge.
Helen another great one. I think you are on top of this technique and no mistake.
Sydney – glad to hear from you and look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Chris I think that 'simple is best too' and thanks for the additional info you provided on how you did this.

Lillias, you have a great handle on how to apply the gradients! The light and shading in the one above is beautiful.

That's a lot of curves. Which tool did you use ?quick selection? Because of all the curves I did all my selections in Affinity Photo using the pen tool. It was good practice for me as I haven't used the pen tool very much not having one in PSE. I did my gradients in Affinity too.

Ahh .... the dreaded pen tool😊
I tried getting the hang of it a few years ago and gave up (hence the rough selections in the Richard III logo image above)
I discovered recently that PS has a relatively new variant - curvature pen tool - which looks easier to use (more intuitive)

Thanks for mentioning it as others in the forum here might not know about it either and they might be interested. I looked on YouTube and saw a video on how to use it. Looked quite good, certainly easier to control than the normal pen tool I would think. However I will have to stick with the pen tool in AP as I'm not up for getting a subscription to PS.

Yes, like the simplicity
I hadn't thought of mixing the original and the graphic.
To me, it has a touch of the surreal, as I had thought that the graphic part was originally tall buildings.

To me, it has a touch of the surreal, as I had thought that the graphic part was originally tall buildings. Ah now that's interesting. Probably because I had the advantage of working from the original photo, that perspective didn't occur to me at all Chris. I had to look at it again and I see where you are coming from. I'll look at it in a whole new way now…

Wow, these have become so good since I looked last. Lillias, your perfect selection of the origami-type structure could almost drive me to another attempt at learning the pen tool.
