Above the Marine Layer at sunset. I took 2 steps out of my balcony door. Southern California weathermen call this June Gloom. It protects us from early summer heat waves. Converted with TOPAZ Restyle and High Pass sharpening in PS.

You have good strong edges there, Pete. If it were mine I might be tempted to select the flower and replace the background with something smoother and perhaps darker......not saying you need to.....just a thought. Feel free to ignore me. Ignoring is NOT an option, at least when it comes to good, solid suggestions! I agree with you that the background is competing with the flowers.

Your predator is well placed in the frame, Judy.....don't think he looks the least bit guilty. Rita....fascinating cloud cover...I have only seen a similar view when flying. We frequently have the fog roll in along the Jersey coast in summer as well. Peter, I agree the background was competing with your flowers. Your newest image is a definite improvement. Or I should have said or tell me to take a hike ! |

Great subject, Tony. Love the toning. Look forward to seeing what comes next. Took the camera to a couple of locations on the town walking tour today - both for this challenge and an upcoming camera club meeting where I need some different viewpoints of things. So here are a couple more - converted from RAW in LR using one of the B&W profiles for my Fuji camera. This is the roof of what was the Ladies Waiting Room at the station built in 1903 - the trains no longer run so it's now just a room in the local library.  And this is the old water tower built in 1896 - 85ft high with an open top. Apparently kids would climb the ladder and go for a swim in it. No longer in use but recently designated as a historic building so saved from the scrap heap!  Tony |

Rita....fascinating cloud cover...I have only seen a similar view when flying. We frequently have the fog roll in along the Jersey coast in summer as well. I was told by somebody who figured it out with the help of a contour map that we are roughly 900 feet above the water level and approximately a mile inland. At night the fog comes creeping up through the canyons below us and can spread as far as Los Angeles until it gets stopped by the Hollywood Hills.

Tony...two interesting perspectives.... my favorite is the second one. The way you positioned yourself accentuates the height of the tower.
Frank....nice clarity in both of these macros. I especially like all the details you were able to bring out in the moth.

I often pass this scene on my early morning walk. This pond and converted old barn are about a mile from my home. On this day (when I had my camera), it was overcast and a fog was over the water. When I processed and converted the image, the fog was lost … so I used a Nik fog filter to replace the fog. One more - a very short walk into the wild flower area of the backyard - the Black Eyed Susans are in full flower - they are normally yellow and black but I went with B&W (Brown and White  )  Tony |

Another walk Behind our house are fields that are planted with corn. On this particular morning, a paraglider was flying very low and just above the growing corn. I was not thinking B&W, I just hoped to capture the action. After viewing my shots, it was then I thought about a B&W conversion. I converted with Silver Efex, using a soft sepia preset with a red filter. I chose this image because of the clouds and sky (the red filter darkened the sky) and I also liked how the lines on the paraglider formed a triangle and lead to the (encircled) pilot. 2812blog.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/paraglider_5356.jpg |
