Out of curiosity I played a bit with merging together screenshots of this thread.
Below are the first 4 screen shots rotated 90deg to the left and the merged "panorama".
As I mentioned earlier, I create a lot of panoramas merging typically anywhere between 5-10 portrait orientation landscape shots without any problems. But in this exercise I had to merge only two screenshots at time, appending the next screen shot to the previous merged shots. The only difference here that I can see is that the screenshots are mostly text with large blank spaces. So maybe PSE struggles merging more than 2 images at a time with mainly text in them...who knows.
But once I realised I can merge only 2 at a time the whole process is quick and simple. In this case, PSE did an excellent job in stitching together the screenshots.
Which method you choose to use comes down to personal preference.
