Altocumulus standing lenticularis clouds or simply lenticular clouds. These are wind clouds signifying strong winds up high, but it is also windy on the ground. Around here, these are associated with warm, Chinook winds coming down off the mountains to the west. I can attest that this evening's wind is far from warm...bitter chill in the air. September 14 in southwest Alberta.  |

A couple more "L"s - London's only lighthouse, at the mouth of the River Lea. Built in 1864, it never did serve as a beacon to shipping, but was used for experimental purposes in the new science of electricity. It now houses an artistic sound installation named, funnily enough, Longplayer. I'll start us off with "L" being for Lily. Taken this morning at South Waterfront Park in Portland. Thanks for the theme Sepiana! Bill, great eye for composition! I like the way you captured just one lone lily in a sea of leaves (with the bonus of the water drops). |

Long Legs are what characterises the Daddy Long Legs. I took this photograph this morning, somewhat dismayed as a Daddy Long Legs is always a sure sign that Autumn is coming. Dennis Dennis, a great shot -- well composed, uncluttered, light/shadows, and . . . up close & personal to the subject. |

L is for Lunar Moth. I spotted this one on my walk this morning. It is about 3 inches long. kdcintx, great spotting! You ended up with an image which is well-composed and with vivid details. |

My "L" is for Layers - geological layers found today walking in south east London, right in the middle of busy roads and housing. Brenda Brenda, your image itself has Layers of interest from the foreground to the background. Very effective composition! The second shot is a perfect companion to the first one. |
