I came across a sketch of a subscriber of the old PET mag had displayed in the Subscriber Gallery for the Jan/Feb 2010 issue. Not sure if an action or some other application but I sure would like to try it. If you or any other member recall or can devise such an action I would definitely be interested. Here is a clip of the submission to the mag

Hi Batterup55. I see you have already found Sepiana's sketch effect action. You may also want to look through the tuts posted here. This one had some very nice results as well. In the picture you included the person had masked back the original color of the plane. If you find a look that you like and run into a problem following the tut, just post back and someone will help you work through it.

This is the Westiemom Sketch Effect. It is not an Action, though, just a tutorial. The only difference I see to the simple, standard, sketch workflow is the addition of : Filter>Artistic>Poster Edges
It is a nice, clear description of the necessary steps. You will probably have no problem following them.

Hi batterup55, welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here. I created an action which pretty much follows the Westiemom's Sketch Effect tutorial posted by ritage . It also uses the Minimum filter, the Poster Edges filter, and allows for colorization. Getting into the Action -- Color Sketch
EDIT:
I replaced the original Color Sketch action with an updated one. In this new version the file is not flattened at the end. The original color layer is kept at the top of the stack. You will be able to reduce the opacity of this layer if you wish to do so. Also, a layer mask was added to enable you to do selective colorization

Thanks for this action. Like the BW the ease of use and the final product is outstanding. I used it and in playing with it I reduced the opacity of the second layer to 75% and the blending mode of the top layer to Lighter Color. I then went into Topaz Lens Effects and added a Neutral Gradient Filter 2 stops to the bottom of the image to reduce the exposure on the pad beneath the aircraft. Thank you again

Sepiana, I am afraid that after a full day of playing with your color sketch action and garnering ideas from other posts here on the site, that you may have awakened a hibernating bear. So now I would ask if you would consider "playing" with your color sketch creation/action and see if it is possible to add a texture image layer such as a brick wall or weathered wood upon which a subject image could be blended with and overlaid. I hope I am presenting this as it is in my mind's eye. Thanks

(I also have this plug-in; I am a big fan of the Topaz products.)

I hope I am presenting this as it is in my mind's eye. Thanks batterup55, For starters, . . . I consider myself a novice when it comes to creating actions; my actions are very basic. If you try them, you will see what I mean. ( BuckSkin posted an informal index for them -- FREE Actions!). I will give a try at fulfilling your request; it doesn't look that difficult. It would be a matter of inserting a Stop to allow the user to bring in the texture file and resize/reposition it (Ctrl/Cmmd-T). Then, make provisions to have the original image on top of the texture layer, change the blending mode, reduce the Opacity (if needed), and add a layer mask for more editing flexibility. Just give me some time. After I create the action in Photoshop, I need to test it in every version of Elements I have (10 of them!!!) using the Actions panel, the Effects panel, and the Guided Edit Action Player.

Thank you for even considering this idea and I am most eager to see what you come up with. It sounds as if you have already an idea in mind of how to pursue this.

That's really nice batterup. Very effective. Just a personal opinion. No way could I be called an expert.

Sepiana still playing with your Color Sketch Action and the more I play with it the more I love it and finds it leads to all kinds of ideas. In my last comment to you I posed the idea of being able to add a texture background, . . . batterup55, pleased to see you are enjoying my action and taking it to another level with your tweaking. Great job! I didn't forget your request. I have already recorded a new version of this action including the ability to add a texture. Now I need to make sure there are no glitches when I run it in Elements.

This latest updated version is the result of great teamwork with fotofrank , an expert at action recording. Getting into the Action -- Color Sketch
