Sepiana-
I have not come to any conclusions yet. I haphazardly tried some suggestions but decided I need to methodically try each idea and write down what I did and the results. Then the sun came out and I wanted to get outside and start cleaning up the garden. I should get the study done in the next few days and will certainly let you know the results. I don't know where you live but here in the Northeast we're starting to get ready for winter. No frost yet but it won't be long now. Winter is my favorite time for taking pictures so I'm looking forward to it.
Hang in there.

Berie, that's the way to go -- work methodically. Take your time! Post back if you need more help.

Sepiana-
Progress so far:
Inner Glow- fx worked but not effect I wanted.
Drop Shadow: Didn't work. scale worked
Inner Shadow: fx didn't work but the lighting angle worked. I evened it up then went to layer/layer style/scale effects and evened shadow on 2 sides. Simplified layer (layer/simplify layer) rotate 180 degrees, did it again. Conclusion: not happy with poor results
BUT I found a good video that I think will do what I want. Davrodigital. mat border part 1. If I get what I want here, I'll save it as a PSD and re-use the frame for future pictures.
(I can't make head nor tails of this note. Thanks for all your patience. Let's just move on.)

I forgot to add the picture.
Well that wouldn't work either.
I give up!

Berie, I can understand you are not happy with the results of applying Inner Shadow or Inner Glow to achieve what you want -- "to put a drop shadow around the inside edge of my photo". Both layer styles have limitations. Inner Shadow -- The shadow won’t apply to all sides of a photo; it will apply only to two sides. Inner Glow -- By default, this layer style cannot work with dark colors. One of our members, Moto , posted about this issue and discussed a way to "trick” Elements into applying Inner Shadow to all sides of a photo and to make Inner Glow work with dark colors. Then, at his request, I created an .asl file -- Inner Glow-Shadow -- which will apply to all sides of a photo and which can be customized (including scaled). Inner Shadows - On All Sides
NOTE: Scroll down to the ninth post to download the .asl file. There are instructions how to load it in PSE 11 and above.

my method... Apply "inner shadow low" Go to Layers Panel and click on fx In style settings, adjust the angle so your shadow looks like you want it to look (I chose 135) - hit OK Right Click on layer - choose "simplify layer" The fx will disappear and you will have lost all ability to adjust layer style since the style is now a permanent part of the layer Again - Apply 'inner shadow low" You will see your original shadow darken because you've added another shadow on top of the original shadow Go to Layers Panel and click on fx In style settings, adjust the angle so you see your shadow move to opposite corner (I chose -41) hit OK At this point, you can again simplify layer Realize, this is permanent, so make sure you are working on a duplicate of your layer Inner glow is a lot easier, but my version of PSE doesn't allow black as an inner glow

Berie, I noticed you had posted in the other thread about using this layer style on a Mac. Is there a version for Mac? I asked Frank to test it on his version of Elements (2019?). Here is his answer.

Inner glow is a lot easier, but my version of PSE doesn't allow black as an inner glow Janice, I quite agree -- much easier. However, no version of PSE allows it; by default, Inner Glow cannot work with dark colors. One can use Moto's technique or the layer style I created. Both will "trick" PSE into using dark colors, including black. photoshopelementsandmore.com/post/32350photoshopelementsandmore.com/post/32421
