Hi- I was just wondering if there is a way to rename actions that I install in PSE 2020. If not, is there a way to tell the actions apart? For instance, I have several Overlay Actions (all named the same, I changed the name in File Explorer but I realize that doesn't change the name once it is installed). I need some way to tell them apart. Thanks!

Hi niagra94, Welcome to PSE&M. Have you tried just double clicking the name of the action? This allows you to rename it in PS. I don't have PSE2020 but I'm thinking it might work the way PS does. If that doesn't work, I'm sure someone will tell you how it can be done in PSE.

Hi niagara94,
Double clicking on the name will not work in Photoshop Elements - at least not in my version 19. Renaming them file explorer and re-loading may not solve the naming issue either. I renamed an action in finder and loaded it into elements and it kept it's old name.

Hi niagara94, welcome to PSE&M! Frank is correct! Elements does not have the capability as Photoshop does to rename an action by just double-clicking on its name. There is a way to do what you want but it will work only if the action is going to be loaded via the Effects panel. 1. Rename your action in File Explorer. 2. Load the action via the Effects panel. Ex.: I had an action named " Action Channel Mixer". I renamed it "Channel Mixer" in File Explorer. When I loaded the action via the Effects panel, it displayed the new name. NOTE:One word of caution, . . . if you choose to load an action via the Effects panel. There have been some confirmed reports that some actions won't work when loaded via the Effects panel although they work flawlessly when loaded via the Actions panel.

Thank you all for your replies. Sepiana, so if I load them through actions I just have to have a good memory as to which one is which?

Sepiana, so if I load them through actions I just have to have a good memory as to which one is which? niagara94, I am afraid so. I don't see how we can achieve what you want via the Actions panel; this panel doesn't have all the bells and whistles as its Photoshop counterpart.
