That's actually an amusing question in the context. One may perhaps say that the Pilgrim Fathers got the whole thing going, but historically they were much earlier in time.

Close enough to accept as correct, Helen.
It is usually quoted as 'Two countries separated by a common language' and attributed originally to George B. Shaw. It was used by others including Churchill.
