Hi folks, Really need some help here. I have a PDF Family tree which shows as 4 portrait pages in Chrome Browser. I have used Microsoft's Snipping tool to create 4 individual "jpg pages". Opening them in PSE I try to crop them as precisely as possible but the cropping does not match the "crosshairs" of the tool! That's just the first problem! Thinking , well that will sort it's self out when Photomerge takes over. How simplistic I must be! Photomerge goes through the motions and finally decides it can't manage to match any of the pictures!!! Please God send me back in time to the brilliant Panorama tool in PSE 5
Why oh why is PSE2019 so absolutely incompetent with Photomerge? After all how hard can it be? ...all these pics consist of is straight lines and rectangular boxes, a three year old could do it!
AArrrghhhh!

Hi hexeta, I may be wrong but it looks like the Crop Suggestions feature is enabled. This was a new feature introduced in PSE 13 -- Automatic cropping suggestions. You can disable it. Go to Edit>Preferences>General and turn off " Enable Crop Pre-Selection". Photomerge goes through the motions and finally decides it can't manage to match any of the pictures!!!
Would you please give us more details about this? The more information the better in determining the direction of the troubleshooting.

Are you trying to create a panorama or a collage? From what I remember PSE panorama photomerge requires that all of the images have the same pixel dimensions. If you are trying to put 4 individual portraits next to each other you would be better off creating your own canvas and positioning them manually. Once we know exactly what you need to do, i am sure you will receive the help you need.
Kind regards Chris

Thanks Sepiana, but not sure that changing the crop preferences has helped. I've done a little screen grab to demonstrate the problem, but no mic. so If I can post the video, I'll explain. I don't know how to access Imgur GIFV so cant proceed!

Kind regards Chris As I say in the original post, the 4 jpg files have been created from a FAMILY TREE using Microsoft snipping tool. this produced 4 Jpg files presumably all the same resolution

Let's try this way. - Open your screenshot in PSE -- File>New>Image from Clipboard. - Do Save for Web. - Add the resulting image to your post by clicking on the "Add image to post via imgbb.com" button and following the instructions .

Photomerge will create a horizontal Image, you stated you screen captured vertical Images. If you are trying to recreate a vertical photo merge, rotate your images to horizontal and then try it.

Just where did I say that?
It simlpy isn't true!
This should be an absolutely childishly simple task.
I have a Family tree document which covers an area of possibly four sheets of A4 in portrait view.
I have "screenshots" of each section which do align despite there being no overlap.
PSE 2019 finds it all too much for it to handle.
Sepiana's suggestion is sadly impractical since that would expose personal details of many people on the web which I do not have permission to do.
Luckily, I have dusted off my Time Machine and fired up my creaking VISTA PC upon which lurks a copy of the trusty PSE 5.
That, managed to execute this task with aplomb despite having only 2GB of DDR3 to work with!
14 years down the line and we have PSE 2019 on myW10 machine with 8GB of DDR4 and it can't seem to manage it! Maybe I ask too much!

There is plenty of evidence that earlier versions of Elements (back to version 2) will work just fine when installed on Windows 10. One way to keep potential problems at bay is to follow Adobe suggestions. - Run Elements as administrator. Right-click on the shortcut and select Run as administrator from the menu. - Run Elements in Compatibility Mode with your OS. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties>Compatibility> . . .

hexeta,
Try Microsoft ICE (Image composite editor). I've used it with success. It was developed by Microsoft engineers and its free.
best of success with your project
