Help! My watermark was in ‘brushes’ for several years and it worked beautifully. 2 days ago I used it fine but a few hours later I went to use it and it was gone, vanished, and all my attempts to find it were fruitless. Can anyone help me? I’m using elements 13. Thank you

I am going to be paying attention to any solution you get as I cannot count how many times my watermark brushes have disappeared. I have tried every set of instructions I have found as to how to keep them permanently, yet sooner or later they just disappear. Looking in the "Brushes" folder is useless; as, if you used the brush panel to create/save the homemade brush, Elements just somehow includes it in one of the ABR files that are already there.
Curiously, the custom "Big Eyelashes" brushes that I created exactly the same way years ago are still right there.

Hi elle , welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here. Let's start with a couple of questions; your answers will determine the direction of our troubleshooting. Thanks in advance! 1. The way I understand this problem is that your watermark brush is not available in the Brush Preset Picker in the Tool Options area. Are you saying that it is not in the Brushes folder within PSE 13 either? Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\Presets\Brushes Mac: Applications\Adobe Photoshop Elements 13\Support Files\Presets\Brushes 2. Did you do a "permanent" installation in the Brushes folder? Or did you just "load" the brush?

I can’t answer your Qs. I’m technologically inept. I do know it took me a dozen attempts to make the watermark. Know idea how it got into brushes, don’t know what a preset is. Been using it so free of it years and years. No one can help me; gönna have to hire someone to come over and te make it... if I can find someone familiar with elements

elle , please, don't feel like that. I’m sure you can tackle this problem and create a new watermark brush. There’s no need to hire someone to do it. I believe in you!
First, let’s get this technical stuff out of the way -- install vs load brushes and "disappearing" brushes. Install vs Load:When you install brushes in the Brushes folder within Elements, you are making them available to the Brush tool on a permanent basis. Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\Presets\Brushes Mac: Applications\Adobe Photoshop Elements 13\Support Files\Presets\Brushes When you load brushes, you are making them available to the Brush tool temporarily. It is usually suggested that you do this in the case of brushes that you may not use very often . Brushes Disappearing When Installed: The only scenarios I can think of where permanently-installed brushes would disappear are: 1. If you, on purpose, go to the Presets/Brushes folder and delete them. 2. If you uninstall/reinstall Elements. When this program is reinstalled, it opens up in a "virgin" state, i.e., no added-on brushes, just the built-in ones. Brushes Disappearing When Loaded:If you load your brush, you will encounter a "disappearing act" by the Brush tool. This is by design; it is not a case of the Brush tool misbehaving. Here is a video which explains the Load technique in detail. Around the 4:50 mark, Rick Peterson discusses "disappearing" brushes. Load Brushes In Photoshop ElementsNow let’s address this, . . . If you want to create a new watermark brush, we can round up some tutorials. How did your watermark brush look like? Your signature? The Copyright symbol? And, if you need further help with the process, just post back. Help is only one post away!

You may be able to select your watermark from an image where it offers a good contrast to the background. At least it would be simpler than starting from scratch.

If you know what the brush was called, have you attempted to use windows explorer or finder(Mac) to search and find it?
