I really wanted to have a try at this. But, as per usual, I cannot follow the video. He talks so fast, that when I pause it, he has already got ahead of me.
Does anyone know of a written tutorial for watercolouring?

I cannot follow the video. He talks so fast, that when I pause it, he has already got ahead of me. whippet, I had jotted down some notes while I was playing the video. See if they make sense to you. 1. Duplicate the background layer (Ctrl-J). 2. Filter > Artistic > Cutout> 8 4 1. 3. Place texture > Adjust size (Ctrl-T) > Overlay blending mode, 100% Opacity. 4. Group the two top layers. 5. Hide the layer group. 6. Create a blank layer above the background layer > Fill with White. 7. Filter > Texturizer > Canvas > 200 2 Top. 8. Show the layer group. 9. Add a layer mask > Alt+ > black mask. 10. Create a blank layer above the mask layer > Fill with White. 11. Filter > Render > Clouds. Cycle through (Ctrl-F). Pick the result you like. 12. Elliptical Marquee tool > New Selection > Feather 100 px. Move it around until you like what you selected. 13. Define brush > Clouds. Select>Deselect (Ctrl-D). 14. Delete the cloud layer. 15. Brush tool > 35% Opacity > Paint to bring some color back. 16. Ungroup the layer group, 17. Duplicate the background layer > Move it between Layer 2 and Layer 1. 18. Filter > Artistic > Cutout > 8 4 1. Click on the New Effect button at the bottom of the dialog when applying this filter. 19. Filter > Sketch > Photocopy > 3 4. 20. Multiply blending mode. 21. Duplicate Layer 1. 22. Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur > 10 px > Reduce Opacity (around 80%).

I know I have to be in a patient mood to follow a video tutorial. After pausing and doing one step or two I almost always have to move the slider back a bit before restarting it. eventually I get through it.

Great tutorial, Tom - thanks for putting it out there for us to try. I used a watercolour texture from textures4photoshop.com. I deviated from the tutorial a number of times ie. different blend modes and settings.

I will print that off, then have a try.

Sepiana, thank you for your breakdown. It made it a lot easier. I left out the Photocopy portion at the end, it seemed to ruin what I had done up to that point. Image from Morgue File (I think)
