It does have a glow effect, Lillias. I like the way the different colors show up in your rectangular outline.

I am not a bug man…. that being said, I decided to crop the image and place the subject using the golden section in a 5x4 rectangle. Then selected the rose and the bud and filled the selection with red {multiply bend mode). Applied high pass sharpening to the bug and some select foliage to help separate them from the background. Applied two Nik filters one for detail (the bug) and one for contrast (global). Darkened the back ground—especially the green. A few minor touchups and a slight vignette.

Your placement of the subject works really well, Pete. Your butterfly stands out nicely against the background.

Hello all. I hope my explanation isn't confusing. Using PSE2020, I made a copy of the picture, then converted the bottom most layer to b&w-newspaper then used a mosaic texture to it. On the original, I selected a portion of the photo using the marquee tool, made a new layer, then made 2 more copies. The bottom most of those copies I Gaussian blurred with a 3. The first layer I blended w/ the second just as an Overlay. On the top layer I added a stroke of 1 to the outside, and a drop shadow of 3/15/40 (size/distance/opacity) with a lighting angle of 50.

So nice to see you jump in on this challenge, Krispy! Your explanation was easy to follow and framing the image was a good idea.

Glad you gave this a try and thanks for including your editing panels, Jim. I like your edit and agree they do all look good. It will be interesting to see how the photographer picks a top three.

I have enjoyed seeing all the wonderful creative examples! What draws me to this photo is the delicate beauty of the butterfly and the vivid colour of its wing contrasted with the flower. First into Lightroom and I selected the Nikon camera vivid profile from the list. Then cropped. Then into Photoshop Elements. Sharpened the subject with Topaz Sharpen AI and gave some gaussian blur and some cloning to the background to make the subject stand out. Added a filter to emphasise the details in the wing and a frame. Finally increased the cropped image size x2 with Gigapixel AI. Kind regards Chris

Just when I thought this challenge had probably seen its last edit......what a nice surprise, Chris! You have really brought out the detail and I especially like how you handled the background.

Here is my second attempt. This time with less cropping to see the butterfly in context. I wanted to create some drama with light and dark and highlight the flowers which are the butterfly's centre of attention. I used a preset from Jixipix Spektral art with an adjustment layer to get the effect I wanted. Then, I added a brightness adjustment layer to selectively darken parts of the image before adding a frame. Kind regards Chris

Thank you to everyone for participating in this RAW Challenge. All the edits submitted illustrate the very creative abilities of our forum members. The following 3 edits are picked for comment. Chris - The close crop showcases the beauty and colors of the butterfly and flower contrasted with the green foliage in the background. The whimsical shapes in the frame make me think of fluttering wings. i.ibb.co/Twzjx3p/Butterfly-on-Flower.jpgTonyw - The blue in the top of the background creates a water effect as though the photo was taken by a pond which adds more interest. The slight texture enhances the water effect. The translucent-like frame with the delicate white strip is a nice addition. i.ibb.co/5TrxWT7/butterfly1c.jpgHelen - The water reflection is very well done especially with the waterline along the bottom of the flower as if the flower is dipping into the water. The vertical crop on the main subject caused me to take different view of the photo. Very nice job! i.ibb.co/d09fqs7/Butterfly.jpg
